Garmin mounts

I bought a new c530 recently and tried the windshield mount once. In my car mounting on the windshield puts the unit beyond arms length. Also, it was hard to remove.
I bought the bean bag. I set it on top of the dash and it stays put. When leaving the car I place it on the floor close to the driver's door and it is out of sight.
Leaving the mount attached to the windshield with the unit removed is an invitation for a break-in. Thieves will assume the unit is in the glove compartment or trunk and try to find it.

I don't think there is a difference between the beanbag that comes with the ball mount and the one that does. Look at the photos on the various websites selling them. If something happens to the ball mount or base, you can replace one or the other and not the entire unit

I completely agree. I use

I completely agree. I use the 3-finger friction mount (similar to the beanbag) and it has been great for me in every car that I've used it in.

Friction Mount....

I have that as well but it has a tendency to slide backwards on my dashboard and I dont like that so I am back to the suction mount.

About a year ago I purchased

About a year ago I purchased 2 top of dash quick release mounts for my Garmin C550 for my 2 cars.. One was a small flat mount without any ID printing the other was identical but had Garmin printed along the edge in bold white lettering. I covered the Garmin name with black electrical tape. If someone looks close enough he will see the mounts but will he know what they are for? I remove the C550 every time I park and like you, lay it on the floor out of sight. So far no problem.

Ham radio Operator W9WOW. Using Garmin Streetpilot C550. Mac G5 Duo with Mac OS 10.4.10

Keeps popping off

I am having a problem with the suction cup mount on my 660. It pops off the windshield when I leave the car parked for while, but it seems to happen just every so often. I have never had it come off the windshield with the 660 in it. Is that normal? I live in Southern California and it does get pretty hot.

Clean with alcohol

I had the problem on occssion. I cleaned the windshield where I was mounting the suction cup with rubbing alcohol. I then moistened the outer edge of the suction cup before mounting and never had a problem with it falling off.

Garmin Nuvi 750 & c530 with RT's vol. mod., Vulcan Nomad

I used the bean bag for a while but with a mic and power cord plugged in, pulling it off and putting it back on the dash was a mess. I ended up going back to the suction cup but mounting the nuvi on the left hand side of the windshield - left of the steering wheel. This put the nuvi closer to me but does not block any of my field of vision. In using the suction cup I am able to run the power and mic wires behind all of the trim and keep it all clean.

I know leaving the suction cup might invite a thief but seeing the cup and no Garmin in site I hope would stop them from breaking glass just to hunt in hopes of finding the unit. Sometimes I do sweat it a bit when I have the radar detector, nuvi 660 and my ipod tucked away in the center console. Lot a money to lose.
