New Escort Radar Detector With GPS

Does anyone know if the new Escort radar detector with GPS can accept POI uploads?

Thx,
Jenny

No, it doesnt. It isn't

No, it doesnt. It isn't really a GPSr in the sense that it can be used to navigate. The GPS that is incorporated into the RD is used to be able to mark false locations, red light cams, etc. It isn't used for navigation.

That is good to know. I would hate to miss a navigation command because of a radar alert, and I would really hate to miss a radar alert because of a navigation command. I would prefer to separate devices that can talk independently. As for me, I would rather let my RD do the alerting, and the GPS do the navigation. Two heads (i.e. processors) are better than one.

There used to be a really

There used to be a really nice website that rated all of the detectors. I cannot seem to find it, does anyone know which site I'm talking about? I googled and found a few review sites, but this was a company that routinely tests all detectors and used to sell a quarterly subscription. The only sites I could find are radarbusters.com and laserveil.com (last update was over 2 years ago) which seem to be run by an individual not this company (whose name I can't remember).
I trusted their reviews, but

Anyone know who I'm trying to find?

website

Thanks but no.

No, this was primarily for radar/laser detectors. It was around long before GPS ever came out. They used to have a newsletter that you could subscribe to quarterly, but when the internet came onto the scene, they had a website that you could subscribe to. Then at one point, I think they went free and accepted advertising, but they would not accept advertising from any detector company in order to stay unbiased. They had advertisers like Road & Track, Geico and other automobile related companies.

I don't know they might be defunct now. It has been at least 5 years since I looked into buying a detector.

Top RDs

radardetector.net is a forum that is run by the same guy that does the radarbusters.com site. He is a very trustworthy person as is guysoflidar.com.
The top contenders of RDs (not in any particular order)

1) V1
2) Bel STI
3) Escort 8500 X50
4) Escort 9500i
5) Bel RX65

"You can't get there from here"

OMG, two more V1

OMG, two more V1 zombies...lol.

But it is a very good detector! I agree. Wish that I had one, but can't bring myself to spend $450 for it. My detector does well.

V1 is not the end all be all

The Bel STi Driver and the BEL Pro RX65 kill the V1 in radar detection and features (Valentine still relies on 20 year old technology and there seems to be problems with K band failure if it overheats. Detectors nowadays have self-diagnostics and will shut down if overheating and tell you as well).

If lidar is the issue, then V1 is good, but you have to rely on scatter while in traffic. If you are the only car out there, even the V1 won't help. You need a led laser jammer to give you a bit of extra time after the detector picks up a laser signal.

I have to respectfully

I have to respectfully disagree, the STI and the RX65 do NOT kill the V1. They may be comparable, but they don't kill the V1.
