Garmin StreetPilot 2730 Memory, POIs, and Routes

I have had a Garmin StreetPilot 2730 since last year. Ihave dowloaded quite a few Custom POIs and now I am wondering how the memory is partitioned. Is it hard partitioned or soft partitioned. For example, if I have a number of Custom POIs downloaded, does that reduce the amount of memory available for saving routes? Or is each area a separate amount of memory. Also, can routes be exchanged with other users? For example, say there was a scenic route through northern Minnesota, can I somehow send that, like we do Custom POIs, to other users? Also, is there a limit of 50 different routes than can be saved on the 2730? If so, is that regardless of the number of stops on the route?

Hi,

Hi,

It really depends on your model and I don't know for the 2730. Hopefully someone else can help. But I know for the Nuvi series the number of POI seems unlimited. By that I mean if memory is available it can be used(soft partitioned). I have over 100,000 POIs on my Nuvi. Note: The maximum number of Custom POI files appears to be 257. If more are used the unit locks up and Garmin must be contacted for special software to fix it. So store large numbers of POIs on a memory card if your unit has one.

I'm pretty sure that there is about 750 MB of space available for POIs and routes. Routes, waypoints and POIs just do not take up very much space.

I have 5 routes in a .gdb and about 100 waypoints - it is only 166 kb. Several thousand custom POIs in a file are about 200 kb. So, I'm not just seeing storage space as a limiting concern.
