I see it as more

I see it as more distractions for people while driving. I can just imagine people trying to navigate the Internet while driving.

the first thing people will do is hook up their 3G hotspot to this thing.

Not attractive enough

It will probably be as successful as Garmins 295w?.

I would like to give this magellan a test drive

Thanks for the links. I looked at the videos. Interesting unit. Not bad at $299.

I think Dale Jr. is one of the available voices - but I am not willing to give up spoken street names.

The screen presentation looks a lot like my OLD Mio unit. Wonder why ?? shock

Actually the Mio had some features I liked.

And being able to browse for local web sites at McD's without dragging in a laptop might be useful.......for those of us who refuse to get a phone that does more than make calls, that is.

You are right

I did not mean to be misleading but I was. If you use a TTS voice it does have spoken street names. However, if you use a non-TTS voice like Dale Jr. then those voices do not do street names.

My bad. redface

Magellan 5175 Wi-Fi

I have never had a Magellan, but I think that this is a great idea. I have been hoping for several years now that Garmin would do something like this. If you are traveling, it sits in it mount on the dash, when you get out of the vehicle, you can remove it and check the web for travel needs on a trip. Maybe Garmin will offer an Android version soon.

And they will call it.........

We are very pleased with our $69 Garmin 295w's with wi-fi

We have two Garmin 295w's and actually are very pleased with them and use the wi-fi, weather and camera features a lot when traveling.

We bought them for only $69 on Amazon deal of the day so were a real bargain with all their features.

Buddy of mine has the 295W, and it's a great tool for Wi-Fi hot spots, checking email, etc.

Magellan 5175 Wi-Fi

Has anybody seen one of these in any stores yet? I assume it is still too soon, but I am looking forward to reading reviews on this. As much as I love Garmins, this is a nice feature for Magellan to offer.

Let consumer decide, but I personally welcome Wi-Fi on GPS and my next one probably will be with that feature.

Magellan Roadmate 5175TLM

I did stop at a Best Buy as I was heading home from work this afternoon. The sales staff was able to connect the device to their wifi and I was able to surf a webpage or two. I must say after playing with it, I still like the concept, but I am quite underwhelmed by the web browser of the Magellan Roadmate 5175TLM. It reminded me somewhat of the web browser on my Garmin Nuvifone G60. Neither have a pinch to zoom, but rather have several selectable increments to view web pages. To me it felt very "clunky". I would like to see Garmin roll out a version of their own, hopefully on an Android Operating System. I have to imagine that the web browser on a Garmin Nuvi Large Screen Navigator with say a 5 inch screen, would look much better than the Magellan Roadmate 5175TLM.

May be

useful some day. Definitely attractive for some, but in an era of smartphones, a GPSr may be an awkward addition at best. Even without a smartphone, internet surfing on a GPSr is good as a distraction and moving it towards jack of all trades.

Lousy web experience. It was

Lousy web experience. It was slow loading pages. This Magellan is not any better than a Garmin.

$69...very sweet

If the price drops again somewhere around $80 at amazon then I'll take the plunge. Its an interesting gps.

Garmin Nuvi 1820 & Nuvi 1860

If the Magellan were to be popular, then maybe Garmin would resurrect the Garmin Nuvi 1820 & 1860 models!

Magellan 5175 Wi-Fi

They have these on close out at a Best Buy near me for a little over $150!

I don't Like Magellan

I had very bad experience with them
