POI Speed Trap Question for Garmin Users

I think I've figured this whole Garmin POI Speed Alert thing out. But I've noticed something that I didn't expect to react this way. I have a speed zone on the expressway that is marked 65 mph. The problem is that I don't want it to warn unless I'm traveling over 70 mph. This is what I have the speed zone set at on the Garmin unit currently and its not working as I hoped...

Lat Long Caution: Speed Alert@70 Comment

The GPS displays the following comments to me...
If I'm going about 63 mph a warning "Caution: 70mph Speed Alert Ahead" when I get near.
When I get closer and am over about 63 mph it says "Speed Alert: 70 mph".
If I'm traveling under 63 mph I do not get any warnings.

I'd really like for it to tell me that I'm in a 65 mph zone (instead of 70) but I also don't want it to bother me unless I'm going over 70 mph. I don't know how to make it tell me at a higher speed that I'm in a zone for a lower speed. Anyone have a clue if this can be done?

You can't do that. If you

You can't do that. If you tell it that it's a 70 mph zone. That's what it is. It doesn't know what the speed limit "actually".

You can't have it display one thing on the alert screen, but then have the alert sound at a different speed.

However, the 63 mph thing is confusing. Where is that coming from?

Here's how it should work.

You have the speed alert file/location set for 70 mph.

As you approach the location, the alert will sound and the GPSr will display 70 mph Speed Alert Ahead.

This should occur no matter what speed you are going.

Then once you get to the alert area, if you are going at or below the alert speed, it should NOT alert.

If you are going above the alert speed, then it should alert and continue to alert for as long as you are going above that speed.

It should not alert you for going over 63 mph if the alert is set at 70 mph.

Thanks

Thanks so much for the reply. I think I figured out that I'm traveling under the speed zone but being warned b/c I was lowering my speed as I came off the highway, but getting close to another zone.

I have a few speed areas back to back that might be getting triggered. That's a high speed area and I basically set a speed trap for each bridge they hide under. Some times those speed traps are only .5 a mile from each other.

Knowing now exactly how it SHOULD act is much nicer. I'm removing some of the over-kill. smile

I had a few like that, too.

I had a few like that, too. I actually had a 35 mph zone that was just on the edge of a highway which was 55 mph. But I would get the 35 mph alert while still on the highway. What I ended up doing was loading the file into MapSource and moving the ones that were conflicting at little bit further down the road. That worked for me. I also deleted some that were too close together (overkill) for me.

Speed?

Mine, I do not believe, warns when you are speeding - it only records current and max speeds. In your situation, I believe the 63 (if set to 65) could either be a software setting or your speedometer is off by a couple of miles from that of the unit. This is purely hypothetical.
