765

If you like the 760, why not get a 765? It has the lane guidance in the upper left which is really nice and will show the speed you are going as well as the posted speed even when you are navigating but it is largely the same as the 760.

If you do not need bluetooth or MPS, I bought my son a 255wt for Christmas for not much more than $100. The screen is the same size as the 760 and it has some of the nicer display features as the 765 - for a bargain price.

I went from a 760 to a 885t. I got one, rebuilt, from Amazon for about $215. I really like the option of voice control. They've been more than this more recently but might come back down, who knows.

If you want voice control but not bluetooth, the 855t has been really cheap more recently. One of my co-workers got one for about $100.

None of these are super recent GPSs but I prefer the older models that do MPS playback. I plug my GPS into the aux port of the car radio and when I am on a trip I listen to music out of the GPS. If I get a phone call I am ready to go and if the navigation instructions need to say something I am ready for that also.

I think that JumD1's analysis makes sense.

how about the 1450LMT

Best Buy has the 1450LMT on sale for a really great price right now. it has most of the features plus a bigger screen if that interests you. Don't think it has blue tooth or MP#, but for the money it's a great deal with free lifetime maps and traffic.

Why not buy another 760? I

Why not buy another 760? I liked mine so much I did.

available?

Are these still available? I bought one for my parents a couple years ago @ $179, but today, $185 gets you a 1450LMT with lifetime maps and traffic updates. Still, one has to wonder if it's necessary to spend anything when the phone in the pocket works for free....hard to say. Maybe the $99 lifetime maps and traffic is coming, who knows!

Now.....

Old units

Old units like 760 can be bought only as refurbished or if someone selling old warehouse stack. For me only problem with refurbished units was very short warranty period (usually 30-90 days). It's hard to get all problems in such period.

New units, even most fancy ones are annoying because garmin right now got insane way of equipping them with functions. In old days more expensive unit had all functions of cheaper unit plus something extra. Right now expensive unit doesn't have all functions of cheaper unit, so it's rather hard to choose, as always some functions are missing.

So I would agree with what was said earlier: if you need all functions of 760 buy another 760 or higher old unit. If you can live without some options you can just look at new garmin lineup and choose something new.

Again, thanks a lot for your input

No problem. I'm glad to help wink

get a smartphone. a nokia n8

get a smartphone. a nokia n8 with garmin mobile XT is a much better buy than any GPS. faster processor, 48GB storage, more memory, free traffic if you have a 3G data plan, google search using garmin, 12mpx camera/mp3 player/FM transmitter/voice control/bluetooth 3.0 etc.

1450 LMT is Good

A few months ago we bought the 1450LMT at Best Buy for $189. It is a good unit. Before I had a 265W that we use in another vehicle. Both are very good units. I also have Garmin XT on a smart phone. It is good for driving and finding gas pricing. One thing I did not like, though is that you cannot use the GPS while you are on the phone. This prompted me to get a separate item for each function.

Nuvi 760

I'd be happy to sell you my 760. Like new with all original bits & pieces with original box. Make me a reasonable offer -- I've switched to smartphone GPS.
