Me too

It still is Amazon but it's $76.00. I have been surfing for a couple of days looking for a better deal.

I am watching it and when it goes down I am going to get it as I just got a new internet. It is 10 megs up and 2.5 mgs down, and it is unlimited. It was nice to say goodby to my old limited one.

Will post here when I see it lower.

Back in November, it was down about as low as $59.99. However, as of the last two month or so it has been in the range of $77 to $79.

Who the heck needs FREE(!) shipping? You don't need a hard copy of anything; just order Lifetime Updates from Amazon.com, pay whatever their fair price is, get the download key, log on to the Garmin site, and update away.

Sometimes it's cheaper to have it mailed

As of this instant today, your method makes sense (Amazon's mailed with free S&H price is $79 while the Online Code purchase is $76). But many times in the past, the Online Code price was significantly higher than buying the "credit card" update and having it shipped to you by Amazon--counterintuitive, but that's the way it was/is. If you're patient and want the lowest price, it's always best to check both the mailed and Online prices. It's also been true that if you check the price daily and wait, you'll most likley buy cheaper than deciding that you have to buy the update right now. Amazon's pricing changes are odd/frustrating/fun, depending on your mood wink

BTW, Beach Camera's price on Amazon right now is $77.47 with free S&H.

Greed

That's the only answer I have why any business would charge more for delivering bits instead of molecules.
Instead of being more, it should be the cost of the card with the registration code minus the cost to manufacture, package and send the card,or less.

"People want convenience? Let's gouge them instead of making up the difference in greater sales volume."

I usually wait a few days after an update comes out before I download and install it. It was no problem waiting a day or two for my card to arrive in the mail. Lower price for me with a higher cost and less profit for the seller. Fine with me

That's a weird connection you got. It's normally faster on the downstream than the upstream. I've never heard of home internet connection (DSL or cable) with a limit.

Avoid Beach Camera

I too would recommend you steer far far far away from Beach Camera. Stick with Amazon and watch. I picked up my update for $59 around Christmas.

Interesting

I've ordered a number of items from Beach and have never had a problem with them. Not sure why some have problems.

Beach

Beach has had numerous questionable issues with returns mostly and some scamming (low ball camera equipment prices then hard upselling).

For a map card they are probably OK, but I never support vendors who push the edge.

Agreed

I agree with both of your paragraphs above.

OK

Just speaking from personal experience. Never once had any problems with them. Always order through their Amazon partnership. Thats just me.

Amazon

Think I paid $79 about a year ago for the lifetime.

I too,

Have bought 2 cameras from them. Nary a problem, good price, good service. Of course, I didn't have to avail myself of their return policy, either.

I have bought both camera equipment numerous times and one Garmin from Beach and it's sister store BuyDig.com directly and never had any problem with them and no hard up-sell at any time.

I actually check both sites before ordering as prices vary on the same item between the two stores.

Beach Camera

Just my input on Beach Camera. I got a bluetooth earpiece from them and they sent a much cheaper model than I had paid for. I returned it for a refund. No problem but I was out the time and cost of returning it and going to the local post office to mail it.

Not finding that deal...... I'm finding about $76.00 should I wait or go for it!

What's your time frame?

Bawzvert wrote:

What's your time frame and what map version do you have now? $76 (I see it at Amazon now for the Online Code version at that price) is a good price if you want to update before the 4th of July (or maybe Labor Day). If you're willing to wait until Thanksgiving/Christmas and are willing to check Amazon daily from now until a better price appears, you may well be able to buy it for $60-70. As others mention, at times you may also see a Garmin Nuvi xxx(x)LMT with Lifetime maps at a steep enough discount that you spring for a new GPS with lifetime maps rather than a standalone lifetime map purchase for your current GPS.

So...either buy now or wait wink
*grin*

I've had good luck buying through Buy.com and see it there for $74.60 BUT that price is from a 3rd party vendor (Firemall) with 2% neutral 7% negative buyer feedback, so I think I'd pass on that option.

What's your time frame?

Yeah....I guess I should break down and go for it. I'll be going from Maine to Florida next month (end of April) and I'm still using 2009 map. Quite a few places I tried to find in Florida last year wern't there any more or moved......so frustrating. I'm hopeing the 2011 map will yield better results. Thanks for your reply sir.

It sounds like you should buy now

I'd suggest buying the lifetime update now. If you want, you can check the current map, 2011.40, here and zoom into your areas in Florida to see if the update will be of help:

http://www8.garmin.com/cgi-bin/mapgen/webmap.cgi?p=154927105...

I find it easier to use the map by choosing the large size, and by double-clicking repeatedly to zoom in rather than by using the "controls" on the right. Zoomed far enough, you'll not only see the roadways but also see the built-in POIs. With your GPS with the 2009 map similarly zoomed, you can see what's been updated.

It sounds like you should buy now

Perfect. Thanks alot. there are definate improvements and I'm gonna go for it.
Thanks for the help.

Purchase time

It sounds like purchasing now would be worthwhile for you. As others have said, the price occasionally dips down. I purchased it about 4 months ago for $59.

At the time it was actually cheaper to buy the physical card than the online code, go figure.

maps

I really think the concept of needing to pay for maps will go away...totally up to date with the Droid and free. But what do I know anyway, I never predicted a co. as mighty as RIMM going the way of the Raphus cucullatus either! LOL

$77 sounds like an awful lot of money to me considering the last price I paid for a gps was $179 for a 760 over a year ago.

Lifetime Map Price

I think that even $76 is a good price.

It seems to go on sale around the Holidays, especially on Amazon for about $54-$58 but most of the year it's at that $76 price.

Even Costco.com has lowered

Even Costco.com has lowered their lifetme map prices to $79.99, free shipping. It does seem like prices will get lower and lower until they disappear. So many of the newer offerings are including free lifetime maps.

Hey, it's LIFETIME

You're talking about LIFETIME maps. What's five or ten bucks in either direction when you're talking about a service that you'll be using for perhaps several years?

--
"No misfortune is so bad that whining about it won't make it worse."

Still $76 at Amazon

Looks like it's going to stay $76 so I will probably buy it soon.

I have never updated since I bought my Nuvi 750 in November of 2007 so I am sure I need to update grin

Just a thought...

If you can find a good deal on a GPS with lifetime maps, it might be worth upgrading.

I recently did that.

Got a 775WT refurb...

as I need Europe map too. Garmin gave me 2011.40 gratis, so I figured I will wait until 2012 to get lifetime, which I have on all my Garmins...great deal I think. Still in love with Garmin products, sure, a few problems over the last 4-5 years, but hey, so far I think they beat Thomas Bros!

--
"Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, make me a child again, just for tonight."

Purchase Time

It seems to me Garmin releases its first map updates of the year every April so I'd wait. Downloading updates isn't too bad with a broadband connection, but my nuvi seems to be slow at digesting all the changes. I keep my maps current with a lifetime subscription, but I never look forward to the exercise. I'd stand pat until Tax Day and then buy just to avoid having to install another map set in the same month.

Amazon can't be beat

At $76 for the Lifetime Maps download, you just can't beat the Amazon price, especially when you factor in their reliability as a retailer. Even if it costs a few bucks more, it's well worth it for the peace of mind.

Sure wish I'd gotten in on them at $59, though! I'm ordering this week, so that means the price will drop the week after!

Still hoping

I am stil hoping and looking for a good discount on the maps. I don't have a long road trip planned until later in the summer so I am in no hurry. I would like to get the lifetime update before I go on the next big roadtrip.

Lifetime Map Price

I usually only see the Lifetime Map price go into the $60 range around the Christmas/New Year Holidays.

I have, though verey rarely, seen it that low during the rest of the year.

But I still think $76-$79 is a decent price.
