quirky 295W

I decided to load the zipcode file on the sd card and the other poi files on the unit.
When I power up the 295 I get this screen:

Quote:

New extras data found on the memory card. Install this data so it is available if the memory card is removed?

clicking yes, Next screen:

Quote:

Copy this data to your nuvi?

If yes, all the poi files will be erased and only the new file will be on the unit's memory.
If you check "don't ask again" and "no", the file remains on the sd card. A search of Where to? extra pois, return results from the card & the memory.
True to its word, the nuvi does not ask again when the unit is powered up the next time(s).

Seems to be 200 series SOP

That is the way my 255w and 285wt as well as my 295w works

Most do

It seems that most of the later Garmins have this ability with little variances except for the 13xx series from reading older posts on this.

The zipcode file under discussion is a csv file and has to be loaded via Poi Loader by us too. But the .gpi file is sent to a card in the garmin unit.

Skip screen

I always run POI Loader individually on each of the files to a hard drive folder. Depending on my current trip or needs I like to rearrange them on the GPS Extras display by occassionally deleting them off the GPS SD card and copying them back in the order that I want them to display. Whenever I see a file I use has been updated I download it immediately and compile just it, then copy it to the GPS.

The zumo 660 & nuvi 765T both have the option to select "don't show this again" before I click on SKIP on the first screen that comes up, which I do. Havin to click on YES to the copy question with that option being on the 2nd screen on some GPSs has had more than a few saying "Huhhh!", but it does work.
