Thanks!

Once again Gary .. thank you so much for updating your website .. Your tips and tricks have been invaluable on my navigation journey with the various Garmins I have. Thanks!

for those of you who haven't

for those of you who haven't looked at Gary's website you are missing out. Covers everything from the simple to more complex material and makes it easy to understand.

Thanks Gary!

Missin POIs

Thanks Gary! I discovered your site when I was trying to figure out why pre-loaded POI's were not showing up. I think I spent an hour in the settings, trying to figure out which seting I must have set wrong. It's very frustrating that some manufactures decided what should be included or not. A better idea is just to have a setting to turn the feature on or off. If a user wants to see POIs displayed, let them be able to turn it on. After all, the info is already loaded in the unit.

Wow

Great site thanks.

As Always

Tips and tricks just keeps getting better. As always, this site is where to go to find that piece of info that Garmin fails to tell the owners. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the info.

The Moose Is Loose! nuvi 760

My Observation..

Thanks Gary for all your hard work and dedication on your site.

I totally agree with you when you said to password/remove your GPS so that crooks can't use it to find your home location

But with that being said.. (and it's only a observation and thought from this side of the computer), that will do little good if all they have to do is reach into your glove box and pull out your vehicle registration, last vehicle service invoice/bill, new tire receipt guarantee, etc., etc. which has your address on it anyways.

Like YOU said. It's best if you remove your GPS anyways. At least it cuts down on the probability of having your vehicle broken into if they can't see it from outside.

I'm not really lost.... just temporarily misplaced!

New Nuvis

Your site is the best. Didn't see this on the 3700s. When I got mine I moved my POI Files over to it using an SD Card. Problem I encountered was that some showed and most didn't. After researching and checking posts here, found on that on the 3700s (mine is a 3790T) that the POIs have to be 256 color and right around 22 by 22 size. Once I changed all of my POIs they now show.

POI images

I'm happy you are enjoying the site, Gary0825.

I use 256 color .bmp (bitmap image) icons of 22 x 22 pixel size. Remember, Magenta (RGB: 255, 0, 255) displays as transparent.

This I learned from Sam Penrod's POI Loader page several years ago. [http://www.gpsinformation.org/penrod/poiloader/poiloader.html] and mention many times on my Garmin Tricks WEB site.

Garmin recommends 16 X 16, 16 or 32 bit BMP files which I don't follow [ https://buy.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B77805dd0-0e0c-11dc-df46-000000000000%7D]

Thanks; And Even More Articles For You

I want to thank all of you who left such nice comments here about the GARMIN NÜVI TRICKS & TIPS Web site.

I do appreciate them as I strive to produce a helpful, informative and interesting blog for all nüvi owners -- newcomers and old timers.

I continue to invite your participation in submitting articles for publication and even to help me edit the text if you find errors in context and presentation.

Since the last time I furnished some recent titles (at the top of this thread), the following newer ones have been published. [I have some additional ones in the works.]

Remember, I don't have all models to use in my testing, so if your particular model nüvi is slightly different, please let me know and include the complete detailed procedure that is different to what has been published so I can also share it. I am currently using a 3790LMT and sometimes a 755T for the testing of the procedures. I can also dig out a 650 if I need to.

I've recently included a quick link to the 'Recent Additions' page of the WEB site at the top of the entry page.
