firmware (older firmware for the 1490)

is there a garmin link, for older firmware for the 1490?just thought that the new 5.0 may have some bugs, and may need to set unit back to the older version if this happens.

There is a

There is a direct link to the actual software file.
Since I can't post the link here as it's to long and gets truncated, have a look at the first post at http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=139830

Copy the DOWNLOAD LINK posted there and enter it in your browser BUT BEFORE you press ENTER, change the 500 to the firmware version you want. Now press enter and the version number you enter will be downloaded. I use Firefox as my browser and this opens the 'download' box where you select to Open or Save the file

So for example entering the download link and changing the 500 to 490 will download version 490 of the firmware for the 13xx and 14xx model Nuvi's.

Available ones for the 13xx and 14xx are versions:

500, 480, 470, 460, 450, etc. See http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4551 for a list of all firmware releases for these models but be aware that backdating is always dangerous so be sure you have a good backup.

Using this method to obtain a firmware file results in you getting a executable file (.exe). To install the firmware, attach the Nuvi to your PC via USB and double click on the download file icon.

FYI, This is where "Tiny URL" comes in handy. The long URL you pointed to turns into:
