Display Map mode

Couldnt find this in search, but thats no surprise. I was wanting to know if the red light cameras will work if you just have the "display map" activated in a nuvi 855 without actually having a route programmed or activated. I only use the gps on a trip but was wondering if I just started out and pushed the map, no particular destination, if the red light cameras would show up and warn.

I have a 265WT and yes it does give me a warning when just viewing the map.

This was discussed in another thread that I can't find at the moment.
The GPS units will alert whether on route or not.

Alerts for Red Lights Without a Route

Yes. I just leave it on just to remind me where the cameras are on.

Check your manual

your manual will indicate how to turn on Proximity Alerts for Custom POIs and Red light Cameras.

My manual makes no mention of my having to be on a route to get alerts. When you think about it, that would defeat the purpose of Proximity Alerts.
