Why is this message showing when I try to post a reply?

Have my posts been offensive? Or poorly written? What is the criteria to be a "good" post?

I have it posted now.

Sorry about that, we have some words that go unpublished until we check out the reference that it was used in.

I think I am going to remove that word from my no no list now.

Sorry but my post needs to be approved again

I edited my post because it had lost the paragraph separations that I had in my original post. Now it is back in the waiting approval area.

Happened To Me Too..

I had the same thing happen to me a few days ago.

fine line between filters

This a fine line between a bad word filter, content filter and spam filters.

Rather than having a community member in good standing wait for his or her thoughts to be posted because they got flagged by one of the above filters, why not give them the chance to correct the filter catch themselves by highlighting the violation, or even a suggestion box to replace the violated text.

It just seems that the time spent by the Syop could be better used, instead of wasting time clearing posts. Notice I said members in good standing!

"good standing" status

So would there be a “good standing” list or an icon similar to the windmill and stars so that one would know if they were on the list? Did I loose my good standing status by letting my windmill collapse and my stars fall? (If I even had that status.)

May not be so easy

There may well not be an easy way to set the forum software to do this, Bob. It depends how the code is written. Sometimes what seems like a quick little thing to someone not on the inside of the forum would actually take a major rewrite and cost mucho programming time/bucks, or not even be possible because there is no provision in the software for such a distinction and the code was sold to the forum by other programmers and locked. I've seen other, larger forums do exactly what POI Forums do on this--failblog.org comes to mind. It's likely easier to set the filters to specify an action (such as block the post, blank out the word, or set the post aside for review and approval) that is applied equally to everyone when certain words are used.

Also, accounts in good standing do get hijacked... used by unauthorized users who may deliberately post inappropriately.

best to keep the spammers in the dark

As one who has done extensive moderating and spam fighting on another site, my reaction to this is that unfortunately it also would give feedback to spammers. I've often seen in our logs that spammers tried to get spam past the filters many times, often making typical changes like replacing Ss with dollar signs or just putting spaces around the dot in a url. I had the filters pretty well tuned, and this usually didn't fool them, but I'm sure the spammers would have snuck more through if they were getting precise feedback about what was being caught.

The same filter was being used to block profanity. Most users quickly figured out the issue in that case, a few just left, both were acceptable solutions.

I had maybe two false positives a year. In those cases I always contacted the used privately and explained the issue and the reason for the filtering/delay. I always got positive feedback that they appreciated our efforts to keep the site spam free and were not bothered by the delay.

POI files

My beef if you can call it that is not when I post, never had problems with my post showing immediately, what troubles me as a “certified” maintainer is when I upload a new POI file and it sometimes take as long as four days before showing up on the POI list (both in my account and the general POI list).

If I’m trusted to update the files I maintain why not let my new files show up immediately just as when I update an existing file?

How about MaryAnn

Perhaps

Perhaps Ms. POI and Jonathan have other things going on and can't get to our submitted files right away. They eventually do. I know that I have sometimes been 'chomping at the bit' to get them posted. But they are doing other things as well.....so eventually they appear. They are doing a great job here.....and perform a great service to all of us.

.

Might I suggest to Miss POI the possibility of "promoting" one or two members to moderator status strictly to help with the publishing of posts/files. Motorcycle Mama would be a perfect candidate!

I didn’t know MaryAnn had a spokesperson

Did you read me say they are not doing a great job?

flaco, I believe that for new files, Miss POI needs to check to make sure that the file is not a duplicate of a file that is already on the site.

The delay seems reasonable.

New Page

She also has to create a new page (node), I believe, when the new POI file will reside.

Updating an existing file is obviously different since the page already exists and the previous file is just be replaced.

I believe Miss POI has to do a lot of this work by hand.

Perhaps More manpower ?

As a business grows bigger and BIGGER over time the work force must follow if one hopes to continue expanding and remain efficient.

Funny Words

I get a kick out of who some sites have problems with the word "specialist". They cannot get over that annoying brand name in the middle!
