Traffic for Garmin

How can you notify Garmin to update their maps about a MAJOR traffic closure?

We have a bridge in Knoxville, TN on a major route that will be close at least to June 2013. Garmin routing still tries to take you across the bridge.

A few years ago we had a big portion of the interstate closed for almost 2 years. Garmin never provided an update to get around the closed area.

By keeping this bridge and route intact with the current maps, many people who use Garmin and are not familiar with the area will be in for a few inconvenient surprises when they cannot cross the bridge, and have to follow the detour through multiple stop signs, stop lights, and slow moving traffic.

.

I would suggest you contact the traffic service provider for the area.

That would be www.traffic.com - they are a division of Navteq.

I also wish that there is an "avoid" feature on my 255w. I live near a highway that is a jam factory during most hours of the day. I have to turn the GPS off to avoid the constant nag to use this stretch of the highway.

Updates not fast

There was a 2 year construction project in St Louis. Despite e-mails to garmin and the providers, with responses and promises, they never did get the traffic flow right. Routing, as is the case in many areas, was just dead wrong and they ignored the fact, even with traffic information provided to the GPS on construction closures, that certain routes were just not possible.

Good luck getting that done

custom avoids on 24xx series

Seems the new 24xx series units will include the custom avoids feature that was standard on the Street Pilot series. This feature lets you draw a rectangular area for the unit to avoid or set up certain roads to avoid during routing. Garmin's way for users to get this feature is to (once again) buy a new unit...which will likely have something omitted from it as well. It's always gain something, lose something in Garmin's "upgrade" process. rolleyes
