Convert GARMIN maps to use on Magellan Maestro 3100 possible?

Seems like the newest maps for Magellan Maestro 3100 are 2008/2009 versions. Is it possible to convert the 2011 garmin map .img file to be used on a Magellen Maestro 3100???????

If so: Can someone point me in the right direction? Surely a program exists to do this? or perhaps a 2011 maps set for Magellan? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I think 2010 maps are available

Possible....maybe, but probably so difficult as to be nearly impossible.

I think they did one new map issue in 2010 but maybe not for the 3100. Check Magellan's web site if you haven't already.

Proprietary Data

The Garmin maps are proprietary data. Each copy is keyed to a specific Garmin device. Other uses are prohibited by the Garmin copyright.

Contact Magellan for map updates for your device.

"update" is to 2009 maps!

On the Magellan site, the newest maps for the Maestro 3100 are listed as 2008/2009 updates. NO 2010 * NO 2011!

While googling around, I saw several references to converting existing map data to the magellan format (ie: garmin -> magellan)

While I'm no pro, I think not offering map updates is cruel to your customer (are you listening magellan)

My brother has the Maestro 3100 - Its worked fine for him, and he has no requirements or special needs to force him to upgrade or change hardware. He recently was travelling on a new highway that was NOT part of his aging maps (2007 I think), and was going to buy a map upgrade. I didn't believe him when he explained it was $80 for 2009 maps! So I searched myself, and sure enough they have the 2009 listed at $79.... THATS NOTHING SHORT OF AN OUTRAGE. I would convince him to buy new hardware before spending that on old maps.

(sorry had to rant for a second, I'm better now)

So now what? 2009 maps are the newest offered from the web site, so is that little gps just --- obsolete now? sad

That seems sad.....

If you insist on new maps........

Yes, what you have is probably the best it's gonna get........since they issued a new one for other models and NOT for yours.

I have two old ones and still find them very useful.
There are times when you have to THINK a little bit though !!

magellan maps.

Didn't Magellan change from Navteq to Teleatlas as the map supplier for their newer model PND's? That probably explains why newer maps aren't available on the older models.

What type of map file does Magellan use?

If it's the same as garmin's .img ,then you probably can use it.

As was said

As was said earlier in this thread:

You really should read ALL the messages in a thread before you comment.......especially those that are several months old.
