Garmin 1490T when installing SD card does it overwrite???

Just purchased a 1490T that comes preloaded with all the us maps. I am traveling to the middle east and purchased an middle east SD card.

1) Is it just plug n play, meaning I just push in the SD card and the middle east maps and sattelite will find the middle east automatically or do I have to do anything.

2) Can i utilize the maps directly from the SD card or do I have to install them on the device

3) if I have to install them will it overwrite the US map and therfore I will loose it.

Thank You

.

The card will be plug and play. Push it in, and it will work. However, it may take some time for the GPS to get a new lock when you arrive at your destination. This is normal.

The maps will be used from the card, so no need to install them. You may want to uncheck the North American maps to use less CPU power though, for faster searches, and map redraws.

yes, yes, and no...

The SD storage is treated as an extension to the internal storage. To be on the safe side, verify that the Middle East map is active (i.e. check mark is set) by bringing up the list of installed maps via Tools -> Settings -> Map menu
