Any current Tom Tom models with automatic zoom *out*?

Hello All,

I've been a Garmin user from way back (the fact that I still have and use an iQue 3600 should confirm that). On the iQue, if you're being put on to a route where you won't have a "next turn" for a relatively long distance, it automatically zooms out so that you can see the nav line to your next turn. Sometimes hundreds of miles are condensed into a very small distance. This is a feature I loved. Of course, the device automatically zooms back in as you approach a turn/exit/anything where the driver takes action.

I was also able to control the level of labeling detail for maps when they were "detail maps" and control the font used for labeling different things (e.g., street names, place names, bodies of water, etc.)

I am looking replace the iQue, and the current Garmin models I'm aware of don't support either one of these features and I miss them.

There are so many Tom Tom models that I can't possibly do the heavy digging to find whether any have either the automatic zoom out (most important to me) and/or label detail level control unless I try to download user manuals. Real users have these answers from experience.

If anyone is using a Tom Tom that they know is currently being sold that has one, the other, or both of these features, would you mind sharing the model number?

Thanks,
Brian

I don't know of any TomTom that will do either of what you described.

2D View is close

On my TomTom XXL540, when I put it into 2D View mode (where you are looking at the map from above instead of a 3D Perspective view) the map will auto zoom in and out. It will not necessarily zoom out to show the next turn, but will show you a much larger range.

The only issue is the segmentation of the road. Sometimes (but not always) a road is segmented at an intersection, and the route instructions will treat 'proceed straight on the same road as you are currently on' as a turn and zoom in for it. Not a big deal, just causes the map to zoom in and back out.

I don't know of anything that will let you control the fonts for the labels.
