Weak/No traffic? Here is the procedure to delete and reacquire the traffic data.

I've been having trouble with my Garmin lifetime traffic. It's been flaky. No signal. Gray icon. I do think this whole system just doesn't work that well. But I got some helpful information from Garmin and it definitely helped. I have much better traffic now.

If you have flaky unreliable traffic data maybe this will help you.

Here is the procedure to use the diagnostic screens to delete and reacquire the traffic data.

I used this after the third traffic receiver didn't work better than the last one. The first one worked fine until it failed.

Quote:

If you have a Garmin device with a traffic receiver but you are not receiving any traffic information, there are a number of steps you can take to resolve the issue.
Update the traffic receiver firmware using WebUpdater
Check to see that you are in a coverage area of your traffic subscription based upon the supplier
If you have a Clear Channel subscription, you can find the traffic coverage areas here
If you have a Navteq traffic subscription, you can find the traffic coverage areas here

After checking the coverage area, plug the Traffic Receiver/Vehicle power cable into the vehicle and then into the GPS device or cradle. Allow the device to receive GPS signal along with the FM signal. This process may take up to 20 minutes.

If you are still experiencing issues, you may need to clear out the saved FM information that is stored on the device, known as the FM Tables. This can be done by following these steps:
Power your device on by connecting it to the GTM traffic cable
Touch View Map
Touch Speed (If you are currently in a route this may be changed to Arrival)
Touch and hold the middle of the MPH Speedometer
Touch Next until the Blue banner says either “FM Table, GTM Tables, GTM Info” *
Touch Reset
Touch Yes
Touch Quit
Touch Back to return to the main menu

*If you are using a nuvi 1200, 1300, 1400, 2200, 2300, or 3700 series device, follow these steps:
Power your device on by connecting it to the GTM traffic cable
Touch View Map
Touch Speed (If you are currently in a route this may be changed to Arrival)
Touch and hold the middle of the MPH Speedometer
Touch Developer Info
Touch the Down Arrow
Touch GTM FM Table
Touch the menu button (3 horizontal lines) in the upper left corner [Note: This step only applies to the 2200, 2300, and 3700 series units.]
Touch Reset
Touch Yes
Touch and hold the Back button to return to the main menu

After this is complete, repeat the steps to plug the Traffic Receiver/Vehicle power cable into the vehicle and then into the GPS device or cradle. Allow the device to receive GPS signal along with the FM signal. This process may take up to 20 minutes.

Note: Devices that come with lifetime traffic provide the option to enable or disable the advertisement feature and the traffic services as well. To check to see if your traffic is enabled or disabled:
Select Tools
Select Settings
Select Traffic
Select the box next to Enable Traffic to make it appear.

This will enable the advertising messages and traffic services.

Let's share the merit between them, giving the better half to our Buddy, and whatever remains to Garmin's email system ? That oughta keep everyone happy smile

Them email program can sometimes be mighty susceptible, but being mentioned just might suffice for their transistors' happiness grin

That's a great idea. I know I will be looking for this at some time and having it in the FAQs section will save me time searching the posts.

Thanks for the useful post

This will come in handy .. thank you for the post!

Thank you Steevo.

I printed it out for future reference.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for sharing this tip! I've just got to post this so I can easily track back to the thread.

Sad

The sad part of this is that this procedure is needed for U.S. locale mode. If I reset my 765T and select the U.K. as my locale, I get much more control over the traffic reception including the ability to clear the FM table from the main screens. For some reason, Garmin decided to limit U.S. owner ability to interact with the GTM 20 (except through diagnostic mode).

No traffic?

We have traffic included in our 265wt, but it really never gives much information. Rarely are any construction sites noted or wrecks. There is generic delays during rush hour and at major interstate junctions. Also we have road improvements that have been in place for over 2 years, but they still do not show up on the maps. It makes us wonder where they get their information and how it is actually applied.

THANK YOU. This worked! The

THANK YOU. This worked!

The traffic in my 3760 has been flaky for months. The icon would disappear for weeks on end. More recently, the icon would be just fine, but I wouldn't get any updates -- I'd be stuck with 2 incidents that never changed.

Good with an exception

My traffic seems to work just great with the exception of all the damn implements of husbandry traveling all the roads around here. Though, I do enjoy fresh veggies.

Traffic down for one day then back up?

I lost all traffic Friday and turning on and off a few times and waiting 30 min didn't help. I came here and printed instructions , expecting to do this Saturday morning. only to find traffic for Philadelphia back up and working fine.

Has anyone else experienced this lately? I have noticed a lot of news stories lately about solar flares would be interfering with all kinds of communications.

My traffic just got flaky this weekend

It was down on Friday and not reliable on Saturday. I'm here in the SF Bay Area and have the lifetime total traffic network. This is the first time I've experienced this in nearly three years of operation.

Followed the above listed procedure for my nuvi 760

after reading the post about the procedure suggested by Garmin. Deleted the FM table and let it sit for 20 minutes. Seems to be working fine again.

A Couple of Helpful Traffic Links

Do you want to know if the traffic feature is available in your area?

NAVTEQ Traffic-RDS (free) collects, processes, and distributes real-time traffic conditions from a spectrum of traffic information sources across 98 markets in North America. Detailed NAVTEQ Traffic coverage maps are provided at http://www.navteq.com/rdstraffic/.

Clear Channel's Total Traffic network (fee) provides coverage across approximately 93 markets. Detailed Total Traffic coverage maps are provided at http://www.totaltraffic.com/CoverageAreas/.

Some market areas are the same for both services and some different. Opinions differ as to which is best.

There can be differences in coverage when both cover the same market. For example, in Atlanta Total Traffic appears to provide more coverage close to Atlanta and along the I-75 corridor. NAVTEQ appears to extend a bit further outside the metro area and to provide more coverage along the I-85 corridor. Also note that Total Traffic gives the coverage times on each map. Large metro areas like Atlanta are 24/7, while places like Panama City and Mobile (areas not covered by NAVTEQ) are limited to rush hours on weekdays.

For all features supported by Garmin (including problems with the traffic feature), Garmin’s knowledge base is available at http://iqc.garmin.com/eCustomer/KODSelfService/.

For any features or issues not supported by Garmin, ask your friends (That's everyone!) here. If they don’t know the answer, they will know where to find it!

awesome

this information is very helpful; thanks.

Delete Traffic Subscriptions

The proceedure deletes the FM Traffic data, but not subscriptions. Is there a way to delete the subscriptions? I'd like to delete the ad based subscription and have the paid one reload when I plug in the receiver.
