On the news tonight.
Loma Linda, CA contract with Redflex is up.
They turned them off for good on Wednesday 12/1/2010.
The Mayor, Rhodes Rigsby said "These cameras are a way for city governments to legally extort money from their citizens".
So he shut them off.
In the 5 year contract period they city collected $200,000 of the $15 million in fines.
They were told the cameras would increase safety. The city found they could improve safety and cut violations by 90% by increasing the yellow light time by 1 just second.
The fine was $460. Good riddance.
Those have been gone from
Those have been gone from the file for quite some time now.

According to the mayor they just turned them off 2 days ago. I wonder.
Too bad Washington still sees dollar signs with these things
Unfortunately for those of us in Washington, the cities are still trying to make up for no income tax by adding things like this.

Glad to see it
Glad to see that a politician is actually shutting these things off. There are not that many out there who will.
