Includes 1006 locations in the following areas:

• United States: WA
• Canada: AB, BC, MB, NB, NL, NS, ON, PE, QC, SK
• some may be in: ME, MN, NY, VT (near a border)

Trans-Canada Highway Rest Stops showing what facilities are available. Since the Trans-Canada Highway System was formed from provincial highways, the roads bear a greater resemblance to US State Routes than they do to the US Interstate Highway System. The roads and the rest stops are maintained by the provinces. There are few actual rest stops like what is available in the US, but more turnouts and scenic overlooks. Businesses and homes can be located directly on the highway.

The only locations included in the file are ones that could be verified visually using Google Maps. Coordinates for turnouts are located at the center of the turnout. Certain turnouts and scenic overlooks have short access roads off the highway. The coordinates are set at the beginning of the access road. Rest areas and truck weigh stations have their coordinates set at the appropriate entrance where possible. The locations are estimates only.

Other provincial highways are for the most part not included, since the intent of the file was to focus on the Trans-Canada Highway System. However, a few rest stops and turnoffs on BC highway 5, the section of ON highway 11 not part of the Trans-Canada, and ON highway 401 are included.
