Droid X

Purchased about a month ago and so far would never lose my Garmin for the navigation in this thing. I like it as a smart phone but after you are used to the Garmin, this navigation leaves a lot to be desired. Not as complete nor as easy to use as my Nuvi. Any other reaction to it?

The opposite over here...

I've been using my original Droid and Droid X exclusively unless I'm riding my motorcycle (don't want bugs smashed onto the back of my phone) or taking long trips. I find Google Nav easy to use, but it's definitely not as intuitive and easy as my Garmin. I'm in the DC metro area and find myself traveling to offices and areas I've never been to... Google Nav's quick pinch-zoom satellite view and real-time traffic monitoring seals the deal for my particular business and local needs. I still use my Garmin for planned, out-of-area, long trips. For long-haul route planning, I haven't found a Google/Android equivalent as easy as Garmin's MapSource. I have a 1,200 mile round-trip drive scheduled for next week... my Garmin will be on my dash with my route preloaded and POI's set. My Droid X will be in my console set to satellite view with traffic layer enabled.

Apples to Oranges

I don't think you can compare them to each other....the Droid is a cell phone with little goodies attached. I have a Droid X and would not use it for navigation unless I had to...

Bobby....Garmin 2450LM

no way

i also live in DC metro -- and my droid x takes me on bizarre routes compared to my garmin -- plus the garmin with traffic signal beats the droid x hands down

Droid X

I also find my droid x ez to use but I wish they could do something about the voice on the Nav, its awful.

Droid X

I would never use my smart phone over the Garmin, but I thought the Droid was very impressive, especially how fast it acted to voice commands.

I have Evo on Sprint. It has

I have Evo on Sprint. It has two Nav options out of the box - Google Maps, and TeleNav.

Both work pretty well. Well enough for me to leave my GPS at home most of the time.

Garminfone - "Droid 2,1 - Eclair"

Off topic a little, but the Garminfone from T-mobile now has the 2.1 droid OS update.

This gives you the more recent Droid OS + actual garmin device without data plan.

I am using it now, and WOW. There is a huge difference in the phones functionality since the update.

Droid X OK but no Garmin

I've been playing with my Droid X for a few weeks now . . . It's fairly easy to use, but as others have said, not as intuitive and doesn't provide the same information (unless you start additional apps). I'd use it in a pinch but definitely would rather rely on a Garmin. I have had the same weird routings that others have pointed out as well. I do like the idea that the information presented seems to be up to date and I don't have to pay for additional map updates.
