Forgive Me.....

They say scarcasm is the last bastion of a weak mind. But, sometimes it's just soooo easy.

Quote:

“Houstonians voted down the use of red light cameras in the general election on November 2, but it left city leaders in a tough position...”

Huh? Anything else you want to blame on the voters?

Quote:

“Houston Mayor Annise Parker acknowledged no one anticipated voter dismay with the cameras...”

Gee, really Mayor? Go on...tell us, are there any other issues on which you have lost touch with the voters?

Quote:

"many of us feel it was a perversion of the city charter," she said. "But now we know and this is an issue that we may have to face in the future."

Yes, voters sure can be persnickety about the quality of life they want in their town. I agree, the city charter would be a more perfect document without the perversion of voter's input. (Imagine...voters telling you, the Mayor, what to do....It's just not how an elected leader should be treated.)

But tell us Mayor - who, of the “many of us” that you've cited, feel a voter referendum is a “perversion” of the City Charter? Are they also on the city council? What are their names?

Sounds like your planning some kind of retaliation against these “city charter perversions”. Anything you can do keep these perversions and referendums from cropping-up on a ballot again...?

Quote:

“The city did have an out clause in their contract with ATS. It was a 120-day notice of termination”

Note to self #1...Next time a city contract is to be reviewed by voter referendum – and you know that referendum is likely to pass, canceling the contract – go ahead and preemptively trigger the “120-day Option Out” clause; preferably around 120-days before the vote. It'll save everyone a lot of money and time.

Note to self #2....elect more progressive and forward thinking city council members next time.

It figures,I read the article your link went to,that is why I disagreed when the red light cameras was taken down from POI Factory's web site for Houston Tx,better leave the Poi file active and better safe than sorry by leaving the poi file active on POI Factory.Houston will probably get their way and have the cameras back up soon.

Contract Invalid

Usually, a contract is invalid or cannot be enforced if it violates a law. Sounds like they are trying to turn things upside down. Let's hope they are not successful in keeping the cameras.
