Magellan 3045LM -- Mac Support?

After the guy at Best Buy pointed out the great features of the Magellan over the Garmin -- and it was time for me to get new maps for my Garmin -- I bought the 3045LM unit.

I get home and log on to my Mac. Head to Magellan site. NO Mac software.

Looks like the unit goes back to the store tomorrow.

Or is there a solution?

Go with your gut. Take the Magellan back, get the Garmin.

You can get all the software you need from Garmin that will work on Mac, and duplicates functionality of Garmin's Windows software... RoadTrip (mapsource), and Mac versions of Web Updater & POI Loader.

Just switched from Magellan to Garmin a few days ago (Magellan kept crashing and shutting off mid trip + horrible customer support response = returned GPS) and was happily surprised that the Garmin software is Mac compatible... now I don't have to boot into Windows to run an update. Go back to Garmin.

Anyways, only been 3 days with the Garmin and it's crashed 0 times which beats out my old unit already. wink

BaseCamp

Don't forget about BaseCamp. It seems Garmin has been putting lots of effort into updating BaseCamp and it is growing in popularity as an alternative to Mapsource/RoadTrip.

With my Garmin, I use the Mac software that is available the the Garmin web site. Works great. Use all of them for my Garmin products.

When I picked up the Magellan, I never thought to consider that it wouldn't be supported on the Mac.

The Magellan was returned and I will survive with the old maps on the Garmin.
