Mapsource Custom Icons

I started experimenting with custom icons in the Mapsource software for my Garmin StreetPilot 2730. It looks like it is capable of quite a few custom icons. Has anybody here tried this and, if so, how well did it work out for you?

Mapsource Custom Icons

The summary that was given is:

"With MapSource, you can have up to 64 custom waypoint symbols, looked for in "My Documents\My Garmin\Custom Waypoint Symbols"
The files are named 000.bmp, 001.bmp ... 063.bmp and can be 16x16 or 24x24 and up to 32 bit color.

For the GPSr, you can have up to 24 custom waypoint symbols. Use xImage, http://www.garmin.com/ximage/, to transfer between the unit and PC , the file location is directory selectable. The files created and transferred must be named "Waypoint Symbol 000.bmp" ... "Waypoint Symbol 023.bmp" and must be 16x16 and 8 bit color.

So that I see the same in both MapSource and my GPSr, I've limited to 24 waypoint sets and use only 16x16, 8 bit color and just need to copy the file with the required name. Windows Paint can be used to create/edit your own, just 'Save As' 256 color bitmap. Magenta is used as the "transparent" color."

Does anybody know if this will work the same way for the Garmn Street Pilot 2730?

xImage

I downloaded xImage to try to Get Images from the GPS(2730) for Image Type I have choices of either Screen Shot or Splash Screen, but no Waypoint Symbol choice. When I select Send Images to the GPS I am only offered Splash Screen, but no Waypoint Symbol choice. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can restore ALL of the selections in Image Type?

Now I am trying to determine

Now I am trying to determine if the Garmin StreetPilot 2730 is even capable of doing Custom Waypoint Symbols. I called Garmin Technical Support this afternoon and they could not tell me one way or the other at the time of the telephone call.
