Can I simply convert a GPX

Can I simply convert a GPX file into a CSV file?

just exactly what are you trying to do?

As far as POI Loader is concerned, there is no difference between a GPX and a CSV. GPX files usually contain more information than a csv as they are not limited to 4 columns but can have over 20 data elements.

GPX files are HTML text, so they can be opened with any text editor, but WP programs try to reformat and act on the HTML elements. Use Wordpad or something similar if you need to open it.

it is a text file

What do you really want to do? It is just an XML text file, so you can open it in any text editor, including notepad. Of course, when you do you will just see the cryptic XML code, which likely isn't what you want. If you just want to install the file onto your GPS then use POI Loader. Otherwise make it more clear what you mean by opening the file.

And in general this type of file contains more info than a CSV type file (which, by the way, is also just a text file), so you can't just "convert" to a SV without loss of data.

To date, all GPX files that I've downloaded with POI Loader into my Garmin 660 do not show on the Garmin screen with other CSV files I've loaded before. Have no idea why, trying to find out.

.

Are you loading them all at the same time with POI Loader?

Yes, the POI Loader

Yes, the POI Loader indicates the GPX programs are being loaded using the manual mode, but when I go to use them they don't appear with the other CSV programs in Extras.

I'm assumming the GPX files need to be opened before using POI Loader is my problem, is it?

No using poilloader is

No using poilloader is doesn't matter if csv or gpx or combination. As MM asked are you loading all the files at one time?Everytime you run poiloader it overwrites the existing files.

I may have a POI Loader

I may have a POI Loader problem. Just tryed to again delete all files on Garmin, this time I deleted one file both on Garmin and the file holding the POI's. When I downloaded the files again, the file I deleted in the POI file loaded again into the Garmin. It appears it was never deleted from Garmin as POI Loader indicated.

GPX file problem gone,

GPX file problem gone, removed the external memory from Garmin, removed all files again with POI Loader, and reloaded again all GPX and CSV files. Everything is perfect, assumming there was conflict with the external memory.

Thanks guys for helping !!

Garmin Device, not SD

Next time, make sure you have selected the Garmin device not the SD memory device in POI Loader.

You can have up to 32 files in one POI folder, 32 POI sub-folders max.

how about g7towin

g7towin works fine for me for reviewing, combining and changing formats. Most current version of Mapsource also useful since I can also use it on Garmin products which do not produce gpx files (GPSmap 76csx).
