I just got my NUvi 765T and i am a little unclear about using MSN Direct. (Yes, I know they will stop their service in Jan, 2012).
In old posts (2007-2009), someone said that the cables (FM receiver) for traffic and MSN were 2 different cables and the receiver for MSN has to be purchased.
It does not come with the 765T.
Is this still true?
I would like to try MSN Direct for the short time they still offer their services but I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on a cable. I read that they are offering MSN free for a yr to 765T (new owners).
Yes you can...
Works well with the 765t providing you already have or can obtain a msn cable.
Would not purchase a new one for the short one year period left.
May want to try ebay for one if you just got to have it.
Be sure that you live and drive in their coverage area.

Yes, you will need an MSN Direct receiver to subscribe to the service. That would be Garmin's GDB50.
IIRC the only unit that came with a year of free service was the Nuvi 680 - the receiver as an accessory and the rest came with 3 months - but the cost for service to the end was recently reported as being $19 - not a hardship.
The models that came with the referenced receiver in the box were the Nuvi 680/780/785/880/885
There ought to be quite a few unused MSN Direct receivers out there for the asking - I note that the ones on Ebay tend to be way overpriced.
Currently have: SP3, GPSMAP 276c, Nuvi 760T, Nuvi 3790LMT, Zumo 660T
You take a chance

I bought one on ebay about a year ago and the battery wouldn't hold a charge. It was replaced by Garmin.
Don't know if you have that option anymore.
I had a bunch of them from
I had a bunch of them from the 7xxs I bought. I traded them for standard power adapters with friends in the US as MSN was useless where I live/drive.
