Excess Speed Alert

My Nuvi 1390 & 1450 show the speed limit and vehicle speed.
Is there a way to program an alert when I EXCEED the speed limit by a certain amount? I know how to tie speeds to custom POIs, but I'm talking about just any old place. The speed limit according to Nuvi is 70. When I get to 71, the vehicle speed turns red (who pays attention to that?). I'd like to be able to set it to alert audibly when I go 6 over or whatever.

.

Not possible. The values are set by Garmin within the firmware code and it's not possible for the user to change them, neither the overlimit value itself nor setup an audible alert tone.

Would be a Great Feature

I'd love to have that feature. Reminds me of the early 1970's Buick I had. It had a little yellow ball on a stick on the speedometer. With the turn of a little knob (like what you use to reset the trip odometer), you could move that ball to whatever speed you wanted it at. When the speedometer needle met or exceeded the speed alert needle (it was actually called "Speed Alert"), it buzzed like an alarm clock. It kept buzzing until you slowed down to below the set speed, or until you raised the speed setting with a twist of the knob.

I don't like cruise control, but would use a speed alert in a heartbeat.

Your speeding allowance

Your speeding allowance varies from local to highway, how do you plan on that?

Not all speed are correct

I've been on 55MPH roads where the Garmin told me the limit was 40.... Guess I would be safe, but the noise would drive me to drink.

My buddy has an A4 with the overlimit. Stupid thing bings every 30 seconds with the way he drives. Annoying!!!!

It would be nice....

It would be a nice feature if it was adjustable from the unit (not by having to configure it from a PC). A lot of the roads around here are incorrectly shown on the Garmin (at least they are always about 5-10 MPH lower than they actually are)....

Just use cruise control - does a better job without all the hastle (unless it's raining).

GPS Controllable

You'd definitely need to be able to adjust the threshold up and down or turn the feature off. Suffice it to say, I've had immunity for 35 yrs. I don't really pay any attention to the speed limits. I just flow with traffic. But, the longer I've been gone, the less immune I tend to be and there's always out of town. I'd just love to know when I sneak up past a certain speed. It is disappointing how LITTLE control you have over this thing on the unit itself.

Why not write it up for

Why not write it up for Garmin?

I agree

To be able to set a +2 +3 +4 +5 +6 or +7 miles per hour above the speed limit warning point and have the garmin give a beep would be a good feature. As you can tell I tend to add a few miles per hour to the limit when on long trips.

Seems basic

It seems like such a basic feature to me. I didn't want send a suggestion until I checked to see if it was already done. I'm not too worried about highways. I'm more concerned with around town. So, yea, setting a 3-15 MPH warning threshold over whatever Nuvi THINKS it is, would be great for me. I may write a letter or drop by. I'm in the neighborhood.

useful idea

sounds like a good idea - hope someone can impliment it

Mio Does That

I have an older Mio GPSr that does that. One of the setup functions allows the user to dictate when (mph over the limit) both visual and audible alarms are sounded. Maybe other brands have the ability too. If it's important to you, take a look at GPS manufacturers other than Garmin.

Cheers

Pop up after exceeding speed limit

I don't know of any way to set it up to give you an audible warning when exceeding speed limit. Although I noticed today that in addition to the speed limit turning red on my 765T, a small pop up bar warned me that I was going 66 mph in a 60 zone.

Must be a part of the last

Must be a part of the last update for the 765 on the speed sign turning red.I was hoping that they do for the rest of the models that show the speed sign.
