Good AZ winter campground

Hi fellow RVers. I'm looking for a good RV park probably in Arizona. Any recomendations? They all look the same on their web sites so it's son hard to tell. I'd sure like to avoid the concreate parking lot type of park, but that may be difficult.

If you have any thoughts, please share.

Thanks

Need More Info

Arizona is a large state. Where do you want to stay - down south towards Tucson, central Phoenix area, or up north toward Prescott or Flagstaff. Do you need full hookups or dry camping? Are you planning on staying the complete winter? Are you 55 or older? Once I know the answers to the questions I might be able to help you out since I live in AZ and I am a current RVr currently in an RV park in N. AZ.

Thanks for the reply. We'd like full hookups in Phoenix area or south. I've looked at parks (web sites) around Phoenix, Tempe, Casa Grande, Florence, etc. We're planning on a month. Yes, we can get into the 55+ parks.

thanks

Green Valley, AZ

We love Green Valley, AZ. There are a few RV parks, but all are the concrete slab types.
The area has a lot to offer in the way of scenery, things to do, easy to get around and of course great weather!

We drove from Mass. to Calif. and stopped in GV on the way through in both directions.

I agree, Green Valley is where I would stay if you want to stay South. Not too many good places in Phoenix. We have stayed there and love it. I believe the place we stayed was called DeAnza RV Resort, just south of Tucson.

Is free okay?

Why Arizona is a famous RV hangout. Many upscale rigs.

Arizona RV Parks

I have been maintaining the Campgrounds and RV Parks Combined POI file for a year or so. I know there are many sites in the list that cater to Snowbirds, it seems like most of the parks in the Tuscon and Phoenix areas do. I've left the amenities, rates, and ratings to the published directories and websites as the intent of the POI file it to get you to the location and provide a phone number to call for reservations and other details.

Park owned websites are obviously advertising and some seem to spend more on their ads than they do on their parks!

After you narrow down the location where you plan to stay, you could use Google to give you a list of RV parks in the area and then go to http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ and see what others have to say about those parks. Then use Google Earth to get a bird's eye view of the park to see if it has some greenery and an inviting layout or does it look like a concrete parking lot along a busy street. The satellite imagery for most of Arizona is very good. There are many street level views that will at least let you see what the entrance to the park looks like and sometimes that is enough to convince me to give it a consider or a pass.

Beware, geocoding addresses to coordinates is not yet perfect, sometimes putting you blocks or miles from where the site really is. If the park is relatively new, it may not show up in the imagery or even the street views, the latter are typically more recent.

We will be returning to Val Vista Village in Mesa, AZ

We will be returning to Val Vista Village (a Cal Am Park) in Mesa AZ for the third year. I would not have picked it online since I like more natural parks---we went there to be with friends. The website does not do the park justice. Yes it is one of those rocks and concrete type parks but many of the permanent sites have gardens and citrus trees. We really like it because the facilities and activities are numerous and well maintained. The cost is reasonable and the people always say hi to everyone everywhere you go in the large park. We ride our bikes or walk to the 4 swimming pools, tennis courts, concerts, ect. ect. The location is great because you can go in any direction and be touring great scenery in a very short time. It is very near citrus groves and in Feb/March you can smell the citrus blossums at night. The grocery stores and restaurants are plentiful and good. Lots to like here. You can tell where all the 55+ parks are by the multitude of palm trees.

Wonderful campgrounds that are not full hookups and you can only stay 2 weeks are nearby, Usery Park is one of the wonderful Maricopa County park in a beautiful desert setting. It is not far to visit these huge parks for the day.

My $.02

Yep, personally I'd stay at McDowell Mountain, Usery Mountain, or Pichacho Peak SP before any park here in the Phoenix area. While not full hook-ups, the scenery is fabulous.
