MapSource (City Navigator)

Just got a DVD from Garmin. Don't know if I got what I asked for? Title is "City Navigator V8" Is this Mapsource? Anyway, I pop it in my computer and it doesn't do what the instructions say? Check out Windows Explorer and it doesn't show any files. It doesn't "run"

Do you have a DVD drive?

Not to sound smart...but I have a computer with two drives. One is a CD drive and the other is a DVD drive. Sometimes I accidentally put the DVD in my CD drive. If you put your DVD disc in your CD drive, sometimes it will act like it's reading the disc and not do anything. Sometimes you will get a prompt to insert a disc. I'm assuming the DVD you got from Garmin is good. So make sure you're putting your disc into a DVD drive. Worse case scenario is to bring it to another computer that has a DVD drive and try to see if you can read the disc.

No, "City Nav..." isn't the

No, "City Nav..." isn't the same as mapsource. "City Nav..." will update your maps on the GPSr. Mapsource is a separate problem that runs independently of the GPSr.

Others can explain Mapsource better then I.

The disk contains MapSource

The disk contains MapSource and City Navigator. MapSource is the PROGRAM by which you can manage favorites, etc. City Navigator is the DETAILED MAPSET that MapSource and your GPSr use (overlaid on top of the base map) that allows detailed routing (although you can't load routes to your StreetPilot).

As was previously posted, check to see if you have placed it in the correct type of drive. If you have, check to see if it will run (but don't install it) on another computer just to check to see if the disc is bad. If the disk is bad, call Garmin. If the disk is good, you'll have to fix your computer.

MapSource

Make sure it is compatable, ie NT or windows comes both ways

The "NT" extension for City

The "NT" extension for City Navigator refers to Garmin's compression scheme to make the maps take up less space. It doesn't refer to Windows NT.

Mapsource

I want to tnk everyone for their help. Apparently I have an old computer, that doesn't have a DVD drive. Was able to get the disk going on my granddaughter's laptop. As I get older I find that for evry question I get an answer to, it brings up more questions!
How do I know what version of Mapsource is l/d on my GPS. I know about going tp the "about". But I think that's just the firmware version.
Is it safe to load the entire mapsource version that I have-V8, or can that be done?

Just love my C530.Been playing with it for a week now. I will give a run down on it in another post. Can't figure how I got along without, will be getting rid of the old road atlas!

What version of Map source

On my c330 you touch the menu button (the wrench) then click "Map" then, at the bottom, click Map info Yours may be similar.

Yes, that's the firmware verision. And be aware that "MapSource" is NOT loaded onto your StreetPilot. City Navigator (the MAPSET) is what is loaded. As Marshall has pointed out, you want to look for the MAP info to see what MAP version you have by click Map Info.

If you already have v8 on your StreetPilot, then there is no need for you to load any maps onto your StreetPilot using the MapSource program. They are already there.

But the program is safe to load onto your PC.

mapsource with c340

When using mapsource with the c340 model...I am only able to send and receive waypoints back and forth? is this correct? Maps on my model are already preloaded so I already know mapsource will not do anything regarding maps.
