Pre-programmed alerts not working

I have a 265W and have discovered that the pre-programmed alerts don't seem to be working. Alerts such as "external power lost", "battery power low" and "recalculating". The text to speech directions work fine as do my custom POI alerts (although those are custom wav files).

I've looked in the system settings and can't seem to find anything that would indicate it's turned off or disabled. I have also tried using TTSVoiceEditor to see if the volume was turned way down. No luck yet in finding out what the deal is.

Hard Reset

I would save my favorites and do a hard reset

What was the question?

You seemed to imply that - at one time - you heard a voice saying "external power lost". Is that true?

Since I do not have a 265 I do not know if that were a feature. When I turn off the engine of my car, I hear a beep and then see a message saying that external power was lost and the unit begins a 30 second countdown to turning off on its own.

I did look on the Garmin site and found this:

Can I record additional phrases or words other than what is required with Voice Studio?
Answer:
At this time you are only able to record the required phrases or words when creating your custom voice guidence for your Garmin device. Garmin made the decision to require the minimal amount of words and phrases in order to make for a better user experience. Some phrases such as "Lost Satellite Reception" or "External Power Lost" are not required as these are also coupled with messages that display on the screen of the device.

He! He! He!

This is true for Garmin, but not for long. I decrypted voices made with VoiceStudio and it will be possible soon to modify those prompts as well.

I can successfully extracted all the audio files for all prompts. It is also fairly easy to add new ones. I am just missing a small part that will allow you to change the screen name as well. In the mean time, I could probably release a code without this...

Stay tuned!

I have the 265 also and don't remember getting any kind of voice alert about low battery or external power lost.Only got a screen message. Now recalculating is a different matter. You should get a ear full of that if you have selected go and make a wrong turn and get off the established route. If not getting the recalculating message.I would delete the sound file and re-load from webupdater to see if that resolves it.If that does not fix it time to call Garmin.

Wait a minute...

Do you get "recalculate"? I know there is one "recalculate" and one "recalculating". One is spoken when you get lost, but not the other. So if you hear one, all is fine with your GPS. "battery power low" is never spoken.

I would like so much to enable those dead phrases, but never found where to do it.

Thanks Turbo

I can't wait to use your new program.

No, that's not true. I haven't heard ""external power lost" nor any of the other pre-programmed alerts. I just became aware of this by reading another post where someone asked how to modify or customize the alerts. I think read the post and discovered that there are quite a few alerts and I then tried to prompt several of them (recalc, battery, etc) on my device.

From what others have indicated, many of the voice alerts are not necessarily enabled on the 265W, but I can confirm that the "recalculating" and "recalculate" alerts are not working on my 265W. I've tested it by driving a route, but taking different turns. Seems a bit odd, but it's really not that big of a deal.

That is exactly what I experience, so it's good to know at least that is working as intended.
