POI Locations

I love the POI 1,000,000 location site, wow it's awesome. I'm sure this is only going to continue to grow! There's just one thing and maybe I over looked it but... I noticed that some place have no state name mentioned beside there address.A lot of these towns/cities I have know idea where they are, and a lot of states have towns/cities with the same name.Like I said, I may have over looked the state name but I don't see them. I think the state name beside the address would help tremendously.Again, this is only on some that I saw, not all.But any way this is great and keep up the good work people.

need all the info in a poi

There are some on here that are lacking in quite a few areas. It is nice to be able to get the city, state, zip, and a phone number on a poi. There are many times when you need to call a place.

You GPS has no clue as to the address of anything. All it knows are a pair of coordinate points. Streets, addresses and other information that may be available isn't for the GPS, it's for the humans.

As to state designations, just how important is knowing the state if you have the street address and city? If you search for nearby locations, the unit pops up about 50 all based on mileage from your current position.

I admit, having state information does make grouping locations much easier for editing purposes but my GPS doesn't need it, I do.

Time Consuming

That's how I build mine. Where available, I even include a website address for the POI.

Example: arrow http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13301

But worth the effort.

I haven't gone with websites

I haven't gone with websites in the Historic Ships POI because half of them don't have websites. But, for ships that can be toured or where tours can be arranged (e.g. Umatilla Lightship in Ketchikan, AK), I provide business information, including email addresses where possible.

Some of the ships though only have a name, city and state. Those are privately owned, and it just didn't feel right adding their addresses and phone numbers that I managed to find through reverse phone number lookups.

Addresses and telephone numbers at the very least, are your friends.

GPS, Must Know Name of State Before Street Address

All I'm saying is,on my GPS I must enter/know the correct State before I enter a street address. So for me it would be nice to have a State attached to the address.

Pois from PoiFactory

When POIs are downloaded from POIFactory they usually will wind up as either Favorites (loaded via MapSource or some such software) or in Extras (loaded via PoiLoader).

You would look them up via WhereTo - Favorites, or WhereTo - Extras. Nearby Pois will then be listed by their name and in neither case will you be required to enter either a state or a street address.

If you are printing out a list of pois and then manually entering in the information in WhereTo -Address, then you are not using the information in the way most users do.

I would not want to do it like that but if you still do, then I would run the pois through Extra Poi Editor, have it look up all the information, save the file and then print that out.
