Need help uploading delivery route to garmin 780

Hello all,
I know this is a POI site but I am not getting much help from some other posts, so I figured I would try here.

I recently purchased a Garmin 780 so that I can take my delivery routes(addresses) from my POS and upload them with ease, especially useful for new or substitute drivers.
I have a different route for each work day. Unfortunately after much research I am now totally confused and nothing is working as I expected it to or as I have read and researched from multiple sources.

Also I can not find anyone who is trying to do exactly what I need of my Garmin.

Every time I upload a .gpx file from bing maps or google maps, or GpsVisulizer, I do not see it in the /tools/my data/import route from file to create a route. This is the main problem, I see it in explorer, but not when I look on the Garmin.

Also, when I look at these files the addresses are listed as way points.(see Below, addresses have been masked)

Thanks,
Frank

Welcome to the site!

You came to the right place! Many forum participants are knowledgeable and ready to help.

Your nuvi 780 is similar to my 760, and I think you can have up to 10 routes. Is this enough for your delivery routes?

Keep it simple! Download from Garmin (free) MapSource and PoiLoader, and read what CharlieG has to say:

Gary Hayman has a ton of info on his site:

Route Import

You can import routes to a nuvi from Mapsource, Mapquest, Delorme Street Atlas USA, Microsoft Streets and Trips (newer versions). But you can't import routes from Google maps or Bing maps unless you use a 3rd party utility to generate the GPX file. This is a restriction in Google and Bing (not the nuvi) as they do not create the correct type of GPX file for route import.

Import Route From File

Assuming you have "imported" a route, have you tried

Have you actually imported from Delorme into a Nuvi? I used Delorme on a laptop for years and loved the interface. It is so much easier build and change routes than Mapsource. I'd appreciate any info on using Delome to build routes.

Yes. I have transferred routes from both SA 2008 and SA 2010 Plus. It is really pretty strait forward. Just create your route in SA with the via's and stops you want. Then click on the "Route" tab in the lower pane, click File and select Export. Use file type "GPX files", give it a name and save it. The GPX file will end up in the \Delorme Docs\Navigation folder. Copy it to your nuvi in the \Garmin\GPX folder. Boot the nuvi, go to Tools, My Data, Import Route from file. You should see the route from SA. Select it and Save. It will go into Custom Routes.

Edit - In Delorme, if you have the standard version of SA instead of the Plus version, I think you have to turn on the feature for "Advanced File Management" or something like that.

Thanks to alandb and you for the tips. Google maps is great but their "Send to GPS" feature only sends destination point to Garmin favorites. I never knew we could send routes from Mapquest to Garmin GPS until today. Gotta try it later.

Thanks

Thanks alandb, I now have a project for the weekend and probably a reason to get SA2010+.

Delorme SA route.

You're welcome JFCTexas ... enjoy, and let us know how the route transfer from Street Atlas USA works out for you. Oh, by the way, that option in SA to enable advanced file management is on the Help menu ... kind of an unusual place for a setting. On versions older than 2008, I think you had to re-install SA and select the advanced file management option in the advanced install settings.

Also, SA 2011 is now out, although folks in the Delorme forum are complaining about it for lack of map updates/corrections.
