Garmin 1340 Help installing map
Hi, I am sorry to reply late. I cannot find the previous site i DL from. Now i have another site ; mytechnews.info and that is for \Garmin Hongkong And Macau City Navigator v7. Thanks.
Image file
If you have a good image file (not locked and Garmin ready) all you need to do is copy the file to your SD card in folder named: Garmin. Image file has to be named gmapsupp.img. If you do everything correctly and it still doesn't work most likely you have either a locked map or it isn't compatible with Garmin.
Mapsource?

I wonder if the map downloaded was a map to be read by Mapsource and if Mapsource is needed to "Send to Device."

My exact thoughts, but I didn't have enough information and didn't want to make it even more complicated.

True. I did a quick check of the mytechnews.info web site he mentioned but didn't find any maps or other downloads.

The Map ID is 433. These maps, in IMG format, are locked, so you need to supply your own key for unlocking. Does that mean i have to look up for map ID 433 to DL to unlock.

My best guess is that the map you found is a commercial map that needs to be purchased to be unlocked. Unless someone can tell us otherwise, you won't get help here on activating what may be a pirated map.
Finding a map in one person's message on a blog and being directed to download it from a file sharing site should raise some red flags, at least they would for me.
Sadly, it looks like Garmin had a map available at one time

but the map doesn't seem to be available now. Have you looked for a map from Garmin covering a larger area but including HK?

Yeah, that site appears to link to an illegally shared copyrighted and locked Garmin City Navigator map.
You should find a legal map.
Try this site and see if they have maps of that area.
