nuvi 855 Volume Problems...

I have a nuvi 855 and with the volume at a 100% it still seems to be too low...Is anyone experiencing the same? Is there any way to fix this?

Have you looked at Mixer

Once you touch the volume key, a "Mixer" button should appear. This has more volume options. Have you adjusted all of these?

Mixer Key - Success! I think...

Yes I did adjust the one that wasn't at 100%...It was at 70% and it seemed to help! Thanks for the advice!

Another option

Another option is to use a hex editor and manually go into each voice you use and raise the levels. I did this with my 750 and 855 to raise the volume of spoken commands. A search here at POI Factory should pull up discussions. Here's one:

Hex Editor...

I'll give this a shot also! Thanks!

VOLUME TROUBLE

WHAT DID HE SAY? WHAT DID YOU SAY? My Wednesday afternoon joke!

Funny!

I guess I should quote...

Download TTSVoiceEditor

Search for TTSVoiceEditor on the net. Let's you adjust voices on several Garmin models, including volume and rate. You can even change some of the phrases. Worked for me on my 855 and 660.

TTSVoiceEditor

Yes. 10x easier than an Hex Editor and fool proof. No chance to brick your GPS.

As reester1 suggested, take the opportunity to change "Recalculating" to something funnier...

New Problem with Voice & nuvi 855

"Another option is to use a hex editor and manually go into each voice you use and raise the levels."

I did increase the volume of the voices I use with a HEX editor, but now when I start a route as soon as the voice starts the GPS reboots! What did I do wrong?!

reboot

edisondiver,

It is safe to say you probably changed something you should not have. Just put back the original VPM and you will be fine.

If the problem disappear, you know you did something wrong. Use TTSVoiceEditor instead. Much safer.

If the problem des not disappear, there is something else that has changed causing the GPS to reboot.

Thank you...Still Trying to Resolve...

I'm still trying to resolve, I also wrongly stated that the unit reboots, it doesn't, it shuts down...I did use the program that you suggested (I erroneous called it the HEX Editor)and I didn't mess with anything other than the volume...I thought I did as instructed...I reloaded the updated software & current maps...I'm at work and my back-up files are at home, so I'll have to wait to re-install the original voice files...I'll see if that helps...Thanks again!

Delete the modified voice file on the unit, then power cycle it a few times. Download/install webUpdater:

http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

Connect the unit to the PC and run WebUpdater which will allow you to check for additional files (voices, etc) after the initial firmware check is completed. This will let you download any missing voice files on your unit. After doing so, you can try the voice modification again.

Was able to download the files I wanted...Now the unit works without shutting down! Yea! Do I dare to fix the volume again using the "TTSVoiceEditor"?

Success, Success, Success!!!

I know you have done a number of things to increase the volume. What seemed to be the things that worked.

Someone will have a similar problem in the future and it is good to have a ready solution.

Thanks

Thanks

1) Back-up Voice Files from the GPS unit to a folder on computer. (In case files becomes corrupted)

2) Download the TTSVoiceEditor @ http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/TTSVoiceEditor (Hat Tip to TurboCCC)

3) Replace/Modify the selected files as instructed at the above web site.

4) Make sure to re-boot/re-start GPS after the above procedures a few times. (It seemed to eliminate some of my original problems I had at my first attempt)

I had problems because of being a "newb" and had to re-load program files from the "Web Updater" at the Garmin web site. (I didn't back-up my voice files first). After I did that, the above steps worked perfectly!

I hope this helps! Thanks again all!

TTSVoiceEditor is very safe, but...

TTSVoiceEditor is very safe, but I recommend to copy the VPM file to modify on the cumputer and work on it. Then save to the computer as well and copy the file manually.

Finally, I always "Safely Remove the USB device" after the copy to make sure Windows closes all open files on the USB device.

Great Advice TurboCCC!
