Waypoint Icons nuvi 1490T

In the waypoint list on my 1490T, all icons show up with the faint image of a camera.

However the icons on the map do match those selected in Mapsource.

Am I missing something?

Hmm

Not sure what the problem is that you are seeing. Could you do a screen grab and post it somewhere?

When I add new destinations on teh 1490, it doesn't give me the option of selcting a map symbol for the site. Do any other users of this unit experience the same?

Waypoint icons

Here it is:

On my 76csx, the list of waypoints depicts the same icon that shows on the map. Perhaps the nuvi doesn't work that way.

Thanks for the reply.

When you go to the favorite, select it, choose Edit, and then 'Change Map Symbol'.

Re: Waypoint Icons nuvi 1490T

I have a slightly different question.

I have on my computer a half dozen POIs in a GPX file that all have, as their symbol, "Red Circle" which is the identifying name of the *INTERNAL* icon in the Noovy.

I send the GPX file to the GPS and the points are there with the correct icons.

I now create a GPI using POI Loader of these points and send it to the GPS. When I look at these points, the icon has switched to the default "Waypoint" icon.

Without my having to get a bitmap file of the icon I want to use, how do I cause these POIs to use the *internal* icons?

Is this discussed somewhere and I missed it?

Thanks for everyone's time.

Sounds like a bug

This sounds like a bug in POI Loader rather than a problem with the file. If the symbol type and description is correct in the input file, the program must be the one converting them to another symbol. I would report it to Garmin as a POI Loader bug.

Waypoints and POIs use different areas

to get their icons. Waypoints use the icon shown in EPE or Mapsource, etc. POIs use the file with the same name as the .gpx/.csv file to get their icon.

What's the difference?

POI and waypoints both identify a geographical point. If you are traveling a route, a waypoint is an intermediate point along that route. If you are traveling a route and decide to stop at one point identified in your list as a point of interest haven't you created a waypoint along a route?

The unit treats them exactly the same, they are just a set of coordinates identifying a particular point. Both the POI for a landmark and a point along a route are just a set of coordinates. The software makes a distinction, waypoints are identified as waypoints in a GPX route ([rte]), but then again, so are the stops we wish to make. The distinction comes, at least in my testing, in that waypoints usually have a symbol encoded as part of the file while POI do not. Because POI leave the symbol field uninitialized, the icon file (the .BMP) is read. If the symbol field is initialized, as in the OP's point, that symbol should be used but it is beingg reported the symbol is being changed from "red circle" to "blue flag" or something else.

OK, but is it a bug, or as designed?

I just stated how I found it worked. What we would like to happen is another matter altogether.
