Like "j" says!

Like j says, NO! (Well, to be honest, it can be deleted as many have sadly found out--but it should not be deleted unless you're in need of a paperweight or have lots of time on your hands and can talk very nicely to Garmin tech support...)

But not to worry--when/if you update your map, this file will be overwritten by the newer version so the size of the older version isn't a space issue for updates.

Actually, this is map which is factory preloaded into your device. See explanation of all file names here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/19164

The smartest thing you can do is a complete backup of all the files on your GPS.

That way, if you do somehow accidently delete an important file, you can put it back yourself without having to send the unit back to Garmin.

Backup

Yup .. connect your Nuvi to your computer using your USB cable and go into Windows Explorer and find your Nuvi device. Select the entire contents of your Nuvi and drag them to a folder on your computer's hard drive. So in any case you lose files on your Nuvi, you now have a complete backup.

Display hideen and system files first

On some Garmin GPS, hidden files and "system" files are not typically displayed in Windows Explorer, so your backup would be incomplete unless you change the Folder View Options in Windows Explorer first and allow hidden files and operating system files to be displayed.

Settings

there are settings in Windows Explorer that you need to verify are set to specific values..

Do this:
Step 1. Hold down the “Windows Key” and also press “E”. Windows Explorer should open.
Step 2. In the Menu bar, left chick on Tools. Then left click on Folder Options. The Folder Options dialog should open.
Step 3. Left click on the View tab. The Advanced Settings list should now be visible.
Step 4. Make sure that the radio button next to “show hidden files and folders” is selected.
Step 5. Make sure that check box next to “Hide extensions for known file types” is NOT selected
Step 6. Left click on Ok at the bottom of the Folder Options dialog box to save your selections.
