Added Value of the RLC File

The Red Light Camera file is probably one of the more "complex" files to set up on your Garmin. Once you master installing this one, setting alerts and such for all the other POI files will be a piece of cake!

As you live in a large urban centre it might help remind you that a red light means that you should come to a complete STOP... even when you want to make a right hand turn.

There are no listed RLC's in MA...but why not?

Unless you never drive out-of-state you may as well install the file. Boston or MA seems to have none of these evil cameras..but you are surrounded by money grubbers once you cross the state line. grin

I agree.

I agree.

Why?

It's likely because of this little gem of a paragraph in the proposed law.

(6) The compensation paid to the manufacturer or vendor of the traffic control signal monitoring system deployed as a means of promoting traffic safety as authorized by this section shall not be based upon the number of traffic citations issued or any portion or percentage of the fine generated by the citations. The compensation paid to the manufacturer or vendor of the equipment shall be based upon the value of the equipment and the services provided in support of the traffic control signal monitoring system.

In simpler language, if I'm reading this correctly, the reason there are no cameras in Massachusetts is because the camera companies don't get a percentage of the ticket's value after selling the equipment to the state.

No profit sharing = no camera company wanting to work with Massachusetts = no cameras.

If I'm reading it right of course.

There are none here in MA. There are a few in RI but in fairly off beat places.

Won't hurt to have them. Although they are useless around MA you may someday be traveling to an area that has them and you'll be surprised. Grab them all, they are a small file.

While the laws are generally the same as elsewhere, the driving customs in Boston are a bit different than most places. As the saying goes, green means go, yellow means speed up, and red means one more car... shock
