streetpilot c550

a big hello to you all i am a newibie here so please bear with me.

I have a street pilot c550 runnng on version 6.9 i loged on to the garmin website to down load the latest updates paid the money tried to start the download to the unit and got a warning message saying UNIT REGISTERD TO ANOTHER USER. Does anybody have any experience of this or any ideas if it is possible to change the registerd user or if it is even possible to do this ??

Anyhelp is appreciated as i am stumped my only thought at the moment is a full factory reset ??

Hello and welcome

Welcome to the site.

Your unit was used and it is still registered to the previous owner. If you bought the unit from the registered owner that person can log into their Garmin account and usually release it. If they can't release or unregister the unit, then they will have to call.

If you bought it on flea-bay, ypu may have to provide a receipt to Garmin. If it was reported as stolen, then they probably won't unlock it.

Only the original owner can deregister the device from their account.

Even having a eBay receipt won't do you any good.

And if it was reported stolen, Garmin DEFINITELY will NOT release it. There's no "probably" about it.

c550

Thank you for the welcomes from you guys.

I purchased it from a car shop legitimately not flea bay grin It was a demonstreation model and this is just as i was expecting it sounds like they registerd it and then sold it on at a lower price.

Thaks guys for the replies i will post updates once i know more in a few days about info of how i get on.

It defo was not stolen. If they wil not deregister it i will push for a new unit

Thanks again guys

Hi guys, An up date for you

Hi guys,
An up date for you i have been able to get to the bottom of this issue the unit i purchased was an ex demo that garmin sold and had sent back because the customer said it was faulty.
Garmin checked the unit over then sent it out to a indipendent seller that sold it to me for a knock down price. (No it was'nt a back street gaurage)
When i tried to up date the maps from garmin's web site i encounterd the (registerd to another user) fault because the origonal owner that brought it from garmin did not de register it from there account.

So if you guys encounter this issue it needs to be deregisterd from the origonal ownesrs account. contact garmin send them the 8 digit serial code & they will unlock it for you i was not asked for the origonal purchase reciept.

Thanks for your help on this one guye

I hope you guys find this helpful happy driving

glad things worked out

Glad you were able to get it straightened out. Good luck with your unit and again welcome to the group.
