When I got a Nuvi 205 and did a One time update to NT 2010.10 my computer downloaded a file called Garmin_RMU_CNNANT2010C.exe, which installed the new map on the Nuvi 205 and it installed MapSource with the same version of map as the GPS unit onto my computer.
Fast forward a year, I got a Nuvi 255W and the one time update updated the map on my GPS unit to 2011.20, however it didn't produce any large .exe file and I didn't get 2011.20 on MapSource.
How do I get it?
.
Re-run the update file.
You will get to a point where the button on the right side of the window reads "Continue". But on the LEFT SIDE of the window is a button that reads "Advanced".
Click that button instead and select "Computer".
You nuvi will need to be connected to the computer.

That's good to know. I'm planning to get a laptop for travel purposes and it would be a real plus to have Mapsource installed.

But the OP indicated the the maps on the nuvi already were updated.
So there's no need to do that again.
Advanced options

No. But you do get the option to:
1) upload to GPS only
2) upload to computer and GPS
3) upload to computer only
So this time he can d/l the maps and just update the computer. Next update, he can check the box and upgrade both the computer and the GPS at the same time. However, a 2nd (3rd...) computer will require another d/l session and choose update computer only... and the nuvi still must be connected to the computer getting the updated maps.
