Wrong Spoken Directions

On my wifes 265t, the spoken directions are exact opposite of the actual shown directions. Only happens in large metropolitain areas, like Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA. So the next turn shows left, and Jack says "turn right". It has happened through the past two map updates. Running current version from WebUpdater. I have tried hard reset. Tried the reset by holding the power switch over. Tried different voices. Any ideas?

Don't go there?

Seriously, is it deep in the downtown area amongst all the tall buildings? If so it's because the buildings are affecting the satellite reception to where it bounces off buildings.

.

I've had that happen 2 or 3 times only, and not in the big city. The events were spaced far apart to boot. I decided to follow the route, and not the speech so it all worked out well! As for why it happened, I haven't a clue.

I wonder if an external antenna would help getting a better signal in the city, and avoid that from happening... Hmm

This happens to me every now and then, usually coming out of a parking lot.

Directions

I usually mute spoken directions and use the "Next Turn" in combination with the path on the map.

If it happens all the time, someone changed the navigation prompts using TTSVoiceEditor. I always wanted to do the same to my wife on April Fool's day... smile

While approaching an intersection my nuvi once berated me for driving over the speed limit, forgetting to shave in the morning and nose having hair.
Musta been a glitch..I dont have nose hair..

Had that happen once in Financial District in Downtown San Francisco. Shortly afterward, the Garmin reported it lost connection to Satellites...

We were in Stop-N-Go traffic at the time, and it took a while for it to re-quire satellites...

I feel the two were related.... Going Slow in a Poor Signal Area.

External antenna

I use an external antenna with my 750 and have had similar experiences. I agree that multipath reflections from large buildings in cities would seem to be the obvious cause, but I've also noticed it out in the wide open spaces.

I accuse Jack of taking a nap on me and then waking up at the last moment and he can't tell his right from his left and I sometimes pop off at him and tell him to go back to sleep! grin

The weird thing is that I haven't found this to be repeatable. In my experience, this is a random and infrequent glitch.

In unfamiliar areas I try to check the next turn long before Jack wakes up so that I know where I really need to turn regardless of what he says. If you're towing a trailer, the last thing you need is wrong turn directions at the last minute.

At Start-Up

My 260W voice almost always gets the first turn wrong. And I live in the country. It happens as I leave home and also if I turn the GPS on while visiting in the city. The arrow direction is correct, the voice just gets it wrong.

Only time I've noticed it happen is for the first turn.

As I Recall

Although only occasional, I've seen this occur most often when exiting a large unmapped parking lot or when returning to the main route after a short off-route stopoff for fuel.

changes......

Last year around Christmas I put an annoying Elf voice on my wife's 200. I forgot about it and she didn't use the unit for a while. (She rarely uses it since when we travel we use my 760.) When she finally got around to using the unit a few months ago it totally freaked her out. It was a horribly annoying voice and gave some kind of rude directions. D'Oh!

GPSMAP 76CSx - nüvi 760 - nüvi 200 - GPSMAP 78S

Sometimes

Sometimes I get this too; Emily my C340 says turn left, and her map shows turn right. I haven't been able to discern any pattern, though it's possible the large parking lot issue may be there. What's really annoying is when she says "Go to highlighted route" and she shows both left AND right as highlighted. But she's getting older now so I assume she's developed a little senility. We make a good pair that way.

20 times in same trip

I just went to a 150 miles trip. It happened to me very often. Mostly when there was an highway entrance. It looked like the GPS tought I was not on the highway anymore but in the nearby entrance. It was telling me weird stuff. I checked the GPS precision and it was 33 feet. Precision was not great, but not bad either.

I wonder if it was map-related. I just upgraded to 2010.20.

idk I had this happen to me

idk I had this happen to me twice the other week while visitng my son in Norfolk. Not downtown either.
