POIs and Alternate Paths

I'm new to the world of GPS. I understand I can search for a POI in my area, or where I'm going, but how would I use custom POIs to push the GPS to use and alternate route to a place I'm heading for? Is it easier than using the intersection option under Route, to get the GPS to use a specific road on your trip? How would one accomplish this? How do you create a custom POI? Appreciate any guidence! Is there an instruction anywhere on this subject? Tks!
I've Found it Cumbersome but Doable
I've got a 1490T like yours, and I usually create routes on the unit itself if I want to force it to take certain highways or roads (Where To -> Routes). After entering the start and end points, I add via points smack in the middle of highways I want to use. For commonly used via points, I store them as "Favorites", rather than custom POIs. I don't think storing these as custom POIs will save time, or make the job easier. If you want to build these routes ahead of time using MapSource, there is a thread here that tells you how to do it:

Hope this helps. I'm sure others will chime in.
Welcome to this terrific site
Since your are new, the best way to get answers is to first use the search feature. Sometimes, your question has been answered before. If not, then post away. There are many experts on this site to help you out. Good luck.
