NuMaps Lifetime Map Update NA has Expire Date?

This must have been discussed previously but I can't find it. I just purchased the Lifetime Map Update and updated successfully, though I haven't tested my unit yet (it's 1:45 am right now...) My question is, when I go to the Garmin website, under myAccount > Map Downloads, it says that my "product" expires on Jul 28, 2011. How is that? I thought this would be a lifetime upgrade (lifetime of the unit, or until transferred to another owner). Why would it have an expiration date? Is this normal?

I believe that it means that

I believe that it means that the map is only available for you to reload up until that date. After the 28th, you will have to wait for a new update to become available.

.

Yes. That's correct.

You can only download each update for a limited amount of time.

Then you have to wait for the next update to be released.

lifetime map update

I had the same question. Here's what Garmin told me:

"The expiration date is only for that version of the mapping not for the lifetime map update. We only keep map updates on our server going back 5 versions and as soon as you update to the next version that will expire anyway.

It is really only for the purpose of you loading it to the device. Once a map is on the unit it will not expire and you will be able to use the unit for as long as you wish without loading anymore maps."

If you miss the update and the D/L link expires before you use it.... I think if you call Cust Svc they "may" re-activate it for you for a limited time.

Thank you all for the quick

Thank you all for the quick replies!

What a coincidence!

Being that the CN NA 2011.20 maps have just been released, you should see them listed in your 'MyGarmin' page, depending on which model you have.
