Web Updater Issue...

Okay, I'm trying to update my Nuvi 765T from v3.6 to the new 4.00. When I connect the unit, Web Updater tells me that it can't find the device. I know I saw this issue come up a while ago, but I never had the problem before as it always found it, and I can't remember what the solution for it was. I tried doing a search for the problem on this site, and also the Garmin Support site, but can't seem to find it.

If anyone remembers what the workaround is to fix this problem, I would be grateful to them.

Thanks!!!

.

If you can access the nuvi through Windows but WebUpdater cannot see the device, you likely have a corrupted GarminDevice.xml file

Access the nuvi and from the \Garmin folder, delete GarminDevice.xml from the unit. Safely disconnect the nuvi from the PC and power-cycle it. This will rebuild GarminDevice.xml from scratch. Try WebUpdater again.

If the above still does not work, download the firmware update file here: http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi7x5_regionfileonly__400.g...

After download, rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD, then copy it to the nuvi's \Garmin folder. Safely disconnect the nuvi from the PC and power-cycle it. The firmware update will occur on the power-cycle.

I have had a similar problem...

...is your unit hooked up DIRECTLY to your computer? I have noticed that often when you use a USB SPLITTER, my coumputer doesn't recognize my TOMTOM. When I have it hooked directly to the computer, there is never a problem.

Fixed!

Bingo! I deleted the GarminDevice.xml as you instructed, re-started and it worked like a charm! Now a proud owner of v400. Actually 3.60 was working fine for me, so I hope there is some benefit to 4.0

Thanks so much for the help!

Same Issue

Yes, I have the same issue when connecting different things through my USB hub, so I have learned to connect directly to the PC.

Thanks for the advice!

The hubs and splitters generally do not work because they can not supply enough power to the device.

Its probably something simple you missed that's causing the issue. easier said then done.
