Lewis & Clark expedition

Does anyone know where I can find a GPS tracking for a road trip of the Lewis & Clark expedition route, or where a road trip map is available?

.

Try here: http://www.travelbygps.com/guides/lewis_clark/lewis_clark.ph...

You'll have to convert it from a DeLorme Transfer (.dmt) File format first though.

Thanks for the prompt reply

Thanks for the prompt reply !!
It appears most of this route follows interstates...I wonder if a more accurate mapping is available following two lane roads??? I will be doing the ride on my motorcycle....
Thanks again...

Better yet

Found a better solution for you. Download this .gpx file from my site: http://members.shaw.ca/anon_y_mous/files/

Right-Click the file and 'Save As'.

Maritime Route?

Most of Lewis & Clark's expedition was by water routes, looking for the source of the Missouri River. Are you going to get the Garmin Water Maps?

Just having fun, enjoy the trip!

Maritime route

I realize the original was mostly by water...I plan to try to follow the river as much as possible, however, I will stay on dry land !!!
Thanks for your help....

Lewis & Clark

Thanks for the update...I have downloaded it with no problem...I will review the route and let you know what I think....
Thanks again for your help !!!

Lewis & Clark

When I did the download, the file downloaded as a XML file, how do I change it to a GPX file for the Garmin ??
Sorry for the trouble !!!

Seems like it's already in GPX format. Right-click on the file "Lewis_and_Clark.gpx", then select "Save link as"

25 sites

The referenced file is a nice but small collection of 25 sites of interest to those tracking the journey - though it is missing some key locations. Thanks for the pointer.

I agree that it would be really nice to have a nearest-local-road route (though if I recall correctly, there are some stretches in Western Montana or Idaho that are pretty rough (FWD/trail-bike) so alternatives might be useful. That might not qualify as a 'POI file' though.

Another alternative, a good project for someone dedicated, would be POIs for all the campsites (or their educated-guess locations). This information is all more-or-less readily available, either online or in books, but is not always in a convenient format.

For instance, Missouri points are downloadable from http://lewisclark.geog.missouri.edu/campsintro.shtml - but in GIS format!

For what might the best option, see http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=481071 - spend some money, get the GPX files. I think this seriously needs to go on my "buy list."

Thanks for your help....

You don't want to put pontoons on the bike? You could follow the exact route then.

Lewis & Clark ride

The GPS route you posted is of Rte 66, I am looking for the Lewis & Clark Rte....
I did the Rte 66 ride this year, left early June 2010.
If you have the Lewis & Clark route, I will appreciate it.
Thanks.....

Lewis & Clark

I did that, it downloads as a XML file...
The file does not show on my Garmin Zumo 660...
Any ideas ???
Thanks

.

Try this. I've renamed it 'Lewis_and_Clark.wav'. DL that, and then change the extension back to .gpx.
