GARMIN 3790T (signal problem)

After 3 days use, my new Garmin 3790Ts have problems to hold the GPS signal. It takes also very long time read the signal and somtime goes it away again. In many case will my "car" on the screen not follow the road.

Hat anybody seen this problem?

Erik

.

Have not seen the problem as I don't have a 37xx series unit but you can always try a hard reset.

GPSr Quality Control Issue

I've seen quality control issues in GPS receivers since way back. If the hard reset does not work, and the problem persists, you actually might have a unit with an "infant mortality" problem. I had two Nuvi 350s once and one of them consistently locked on the satellites quickly, whereas the other one took many minutes to lock. Both were running the same firmware. Same issue with old USB GPSr pucks, some were very sensitive, some weren't. The problem is it is very difficult to complain to the manufacturer because the unit isn't really "broken". It would have been better if the screen went blank, and puffs of smoke came out.

Mine's OK

I've been using mine occasionally for only a couple of weeks and it seems to be working fine. I think akapauan might be onto something.
I got mine from Amazon and pre-ordered it two months ago.

My 3790

My 3790 is working perfectly since I got it a week ago. I have seen posts on other forums where people in Europe are having signal issues with them. Europe got these units a couple of weeks before we did in North America so there maybe some early production issues with them.

I'd suggest OP contact Garmin support for this problem.

3790T

I also have been using mine for a cpl weeks - I was a little worried about signal strength since I alway have used an external antenna for all my units from my first street pilot to the nuvi - while signal levels are not as high and I have yet to see better than 3 meter accuracy it is working well - captures satellites quickly if you have not changed position from where you shut it down it does take sometime to locate itself when you are at a completely new location - this is normal but the 3790 sure takes longer than my other units with the external antenna.

My one complaint is the touch screen is not very sensative and you have to stab it a cpl of times to get it to react. Also the voice command is difficult to use if there is road noise -- and yes try and get it to change province - not - will only look in your province or state -- and the word F#$% is not in it's vocabulary -- haha

You might try to use an external microphone. That might take care of some of your road noise. It took care of my 855 problem.
