Selecting any point on the map

Not sure when they stopped this, or this is new on a 3790t, but you can not select any point on the map on the 3790t unless it is a street address. Coming from a 750, you can select any where and save it as a way-point or navigate to that point. I Discovered on the 3790 that is has to be address on a street for any option to come up. Finding that option removed is odd since any point has coords, so why not be able to select it. You can do it in mapsource and send it to the device. I just tried that. Not sure about "where Am I" option yet. Going to try it next time I am in a open area and see if I can save my location. Still defeats the purpose of selecting any point manually. Other then that I love the unit.

feature removal...

This feature has been on all nuvis since day one with the original 3xx series. I wonder why they removed it? Or maybe it's a bug/oversight which will be corrected in a future update...

One thing to try is to set the unit into off-road mode and try the same thing. Does it work in off-road mode?

Not the case

You can select any location on the map screen of a 3790 and save it as a favorite. In my case I selected a river that was many miles from any road. This was in screen browse mode. When selected the name of the river appeared in a black box with a small area to the selected area (normal behavior on the 3790). Now I tapped the box and a new screen appears telling you the Nuvi is calculating a route to that location. If you press the 3 bars in the upper left corner of that screen you will get the SAVE dialogue screen. Tap save and the location is stored in your Favorites.

Try selecting a area with nothing there

Try selecting a area with nothing there, I can also select lakes and rivers, and then the bubble pops open and from that point you can save it or navigate to it. There has to be something there or you can not navigate or save that spot, on my 750 you can pick any where on the map and a cursor appears and you can save it.

I agree

I agree you could save anywhere you tap the screen on the 750/60 as the SAVE icon always appeared on the scrolled map screen and that you can't seem to do that on the 3790.

Since I can't think of any reason why I'd want to save a location that wasn't named or that I couldn't drive or walk to, I personally don't see a particular problem with the way the 3790 works. I suppose it may be useful for something like GeoCaching but these units aren't really designed for that anyway and if you have the GeoCache coordinates you can enter them from the Where To? screen and save the entry as a Favorite.

If I was out walking or hiking and found a remote place I wanted to save as a favorite I do that through Tools - Where Am I? - Save and give the location a name that is saved in Favorites.

Am I missing something ?

yea I figured the "where Am I" would work, Just seemed odd since its there in my 750 and have used it on occasion.
