I have map source on my PC but I don't have any detail. The unlock codes are there, but it says map source is not installed, any help? Thank you.
I have the same problem, says the map is not unlocked.
MapSource itself does not come with any kind of map.
Make sure you have updated MapSource to the latest version.
There are free maps at GPSFileDepot.com
But they are not route able.
It appears that these are 2 different problems.
Jery, Attach your GPS to your Computer and then in Mapsource try going to Utilities - Manage Map Product. Highlight the map product that is listed as LOCKED and click on "Unlock Online" tab. This will take you to the Garmin website and should allow you to unlock the maps in Mapsource.
coonhunter, I'd try downloading a new copy of Mapsource and see if that helps. A new version was released a few days ago. Update from within Mapsource via Help - Check for Software Updates.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the unlock codes are there". What is listed under Utilities - Manage Map Products in your installation of Mapsource and what is the status of any maps listed - Locked, UnLocked etc.
Also if you simply downloaded a copy of Mapsource from Garmin's website and installed it on your PC this could be the problem. That download is really an update and you would have needed a working version of Mapsource already on your PC before you'd see map data.
As alpine1 says Mapsource doesn't come with any maps. If you have a Garmin GPS with preinstalled maps on it then about the only way to get map detail in Mapsource is to obtain a Map Update. There is an option in the Map Update to install the maps both on the GPS and on your PC for use with Mapsource.
Thanks for your help. I originally had map source on my PC but lost it some how and it had detail down to every store or what ever along the roads.I guess I will have to check deeper into the problem.
My computer bit the dust and I have replaced it with one running Windows 7 - 64 bit. I have had no luck installing MapSource on the new machine. Both my old version as well as the new one refuse to install saying that there is no MapSource files on the computer. Well of course not, I'm trying to INSTALL MapSource. Geezzzees.
Where did you originally get the Mapsource program that you sucessfully installed on the now dead PC?
Where are you getting the Mapsource program you are trying to install on the new PC? It sounds like it may be an "update" installer, not the full program.
If you are trying to install MapSource by just using the MapSource update file, you will get the message noted.
The update file only works to update a previously installed MapSource program.
How did you install MapSource initially to your computer?
Typically, MapSource is installed from the City Navigator DVD or it also gets installed if you run the nuMaps update file on your computer.
Alternately, you can install it without any detail maps by following these steps.
... Both my old version as well as the new one refuse to install saying that there is no MapSource files on the computer. Well of course not, I'm trying to INSTALL MapSource. Geezzzees.
You might be installing an update, not the main version. An update install will expect to find the original installed files.
Thanks to everyone who answered my cry for help. I found the DVD that I saved my original map update on. I ran that file and it reinstalled 2009 on my GPS as well as the new computer along with an older version of MapSource. I have updated MapSource to the newest version and everything is working fine now. Thanks again, you can't believe the problems I'm having getting everything installed and working. Nothing works with the 64 bit version of Windows 7 and only about half of my stuff have new drivers available. My Palm T3 as well as my Visioneer flat-bed scanner are now orphans, neither are supported by their manufacturers. Again, thanks.
