Costco 1490T

For those interested Costco has dropped the price on the Nuvi 1490T in their stores to $229.95. Seems like a pretty good deal. With their excellent return policy I don't think you can go wrong. Not available online....

Costco 1490T

That is $14.00 less than Amazon's current price... so a good deal.

Amazon.com has refurbished models for $190. with free shipping which makes for a good deal too.

Multiple discussions in the past about Garmin "refurbished." I had no problems with a different model I bought some time ago. UMMV

Amazon

I ordered my refurbed 1490T from Amazon several days ago. I checked my order status yesterday and saw that it still hadn't shipped, but also that the price had dropped another $5, so I wrote Amazon CS and in less than 30 minutes I had a reply in my inbox saying since the item had not yet shipped I'd get it at the lower price.

Personally don't do refurb's....prefer to pay more for a brand new unit from someone like Costco. Return policy like no other... For $40 more I like new...Once your 30 days are up at Amazon it is yours forever unless you want to hassle with Garmin for another refurb....Just a personal preference...

Me too

until about a year ago when I got my first refurbed electronics. It's been troible free since day one. Several other refurbed items have also been just as trouble free, so I'm leaning the other way. For me, it took a lot of evidence (and over 30 years of buying ONLY new electronics) to convince me otherwise, but so far, so good.

The new 3700 series will be a standard 4.3" wide screen with better resolution and does not include mp3. The currently popular form factor is thinness. There are two factors that govern decisions like those: marketing and production costs. They try to figure out what most people will want and then produce it in a cost efficient way. Some things that are not important to a large number of people are dropped if they cost too much to include...a simple cost-benefit analysis. Bottom line is what combination will help the bottom line the most.

nuvi 200 | lifetime maps

Costco has excellent warranty and return policy

Unfortunately I had bad experience with my three 1xxx Garmin series.

I had my first 1490T in February 2010. I updated all programs and map. It started rebooting on our 10th trip. Not practical to reprogram ont the highway. I returned it for a refund.

I had my first 1390T in May 2010 and had it for three days. When I updated to the initial setup at 50 % of the update, I received a message that it did not have enough memory and should erase some files. After finishing the update, I could not use a QWERTY keyboard.
I had only ABC keyboard. I contacted Garmin’s service department. They told me to send it in for repair, a brand new unit; instead I returned it for a refund.

I had my second 1490T in May 2010. I updated all programs and map. It bugged on the first trip. I received a message “unable to recalculate” and it shut down by itself. We had five apartment to rent addresses programmed in an other city and lost everything. I tried a short reset, a long reset, and nothing worked. I could only get the first page with a blinking Garmin logo. I returned it for a refund.

Every new Garmin GPS takes about two hours to connect to a satellite, to update the initial programs, to set up initially.
It takes about three hours to update with the free map.

Total: That is five hours per faulty equipment. X 3 = 15 hours.

I think the 1xxx series have some problems. I will wait for the 37... series or look at other brands. I lost enought time with the 1xxx series"

No problems with refurbed

I've bought two refurbed Garmins, one for the car, one for the motorcycle, both work great. Supposedly, refurbs are items that have been returned within the 30 day return policy of whatever store the consumer purchased it at. I don't think these are defective units that have been fixed. I could be wrong.

Rocknicehunter, if you do a review of your Amazon purchase, if you wouldn't mind, include the price you paid. I purchase through Amazon a lot. Like everyone else, I try to find the lowest possible price. When I do my reviews I post the price so that the Amazon shopper knows if they want to wait until Amazon drops the price. If you put the item on a wish list, Amazon tells you that the item's price has been dropped. I got my last Garmin using that method. I'm sure you'll be happy with yours.

After 5 days since my order, I got an email from Amazon stating the order is late. Still shows they are preparing for shipment. Expected to have it yesterday. sad

Great Deal Too - Happy With Purchase

I got my 1490T with the traffic alerts and bluetooth for under $199 at Amazon (It was a refurb) just a few weeks ago. Works great and happy I went for the refurbished unit as all bugs have been fixed.

"Refurbs"

I generally avoid the refurbished units. Some just seem to have chronic problems that can never be fully repaired. Yet, they keep being resold.

Very cool thank you!!!

Still in some Costco stores

This was still in stock in some Socal Costcos, priced at $219.

As an aside, Amazon still has 1450 refurbs for just $110.

Got one last time for $199 from Amazon.

Costco 1490T

I would suggest to get it from Costco because they have a very good return policy for GPS.

Ouch!

Didn't see the one for $199. That's the way the ball bounces sometimes.

like another 756t

I have a 765t and love it! Since the last firmware update, my screen accuracy is perfect, which makes it a perfect GPS! Unfortunately Garmin has discontinued this unit. If anyone happens to see a great price on a 765t, I would like to know, because I want another one. Thanky!

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Amazon is the place

I am impressed with my new Nuvi 1490T for $218 a few weeks ago from Amazon. It is brand new and works like a charm. Big upgrade from my Nuvi 260. There are so many choices just from Garmin. Where is technology going to go in the next few years?

Costco 1490T

The nice thing about Costco is that you do not need to buy an extended warranty. No matter when you bought the unit, 2,3,4,5,6,7 years,.......if something is wrong with it, just bring the unit back with ALL the goodies that it came with (suction cup, power cord, download/computer-hookup cord, instructions) and the box with the receipt, there will be no problem at all.

1450T

I got this from electronic expo for $197, seems like great unit. With life time map.

Traffic Alerts

I live in Kokomo, Indiana. If I still lived in Chicago or Detroit or other larger cities I'd invest in a unit with traffic alert. Around here though, I only have to worry about the occasional horse drawn Amish wagon, slowing down traffic. Most of the horses do have 'emissions bags' on them by the way. When I was first transferred here from Detroit, 20 plus years ago, I found it so odd to see hitching posts in the Kroger parking lots. It would come in handy though on trips when transiting larger cities.

1490T

Picked a 1490T up about three weeks ago from Costco, fantastic unit. I understand when they were first introduced they had some issues however firmware upgrades seemed to have fixed all those problems. I can highly recommend the 1490T now, takes a bit to get used to the larger screen size but as we get older the additional real estate works. I wouldn't go to a smaller screen now, and lane assist is wonderful. Traffic is a bit of hit and miss, I don't especially like it however my wife does tend to like it as she travels for work all the time and finds it useful.

All in all, great unit and great price.

The sleeper?

Except for the smaller screen, I think the 'sleeper' is the 2360LT with a MSRP of $259? I was going to wait for holiday sales & look at it, but I got hooked by Buy.com's 118$ 295W instead. The Mp3 & audio output got me there.
