Turn (External POI) to (Favorites) in my nuvi 715?

Hi All,

As you know, when I add POI files to my Garmin nuvi through the Garmin (POI Loader), they are added to the device under the (Extras) menu.

But what if I would like to add them under (Favorites) which is much easier to access?

What is the trick?

Thanks.

My GPS is my external brain..

Favorites are places nor files

If I am understanding your question/comment, a Fovorite is a specific "place" that you have saved. I think most units also save HOME and LAST LOCATION in Favorites.

Maybe someone can enlighten me on this as I can't find an answer in my manual and my daughter has my 765t on a trip right now. I think there is a limit, like 50, to the number of Favorites. Is that right?

EDIT: found the answer:
How many Favorites can I save on my nuvi?

Answer:
Most current nuvi devices can store up to 1000 Favorites. However some older devices like the nuvi 200, 300 and 600 series devices can only hold 500 favorites while the nuvi 5000 can hold 3000 favorites.

One way to add a custom POI as a Favorite is to select the POI from the Where To - Extras - Custom POI screens. Once selected there will be and option to SAVE the item selected. This SAVE function is actually allowing you to create a Favorite of the POI you have selected.

There is no way to add a Custom POI, either individually or as a group, to Favorites other than to select them one at a time and save them as described. As already pointed out there is a limit of 500 or 1000 favorites that can be stored on the device.

Create Favorites Out of POI

Another way...

If you want to add your POI as favorites, you can do so easily if you have the original editable POI file in a format that can be opened by MapSource, Extra_POI_Editor, GeePeeEx editor or the like. If you can open and edit them with one of these programs you have the option to save them as favorites to your GPS. When you save them as favorites what happens is that a GPX file is created in the GPX subdirectory of your NUVI. Then, when the GPS boots up it reads in all the locations stored in each GPX file in this directory (except current.gpx) and adds them to the internal memory of the Nuvi. Once boot up is complete all your locations display in your favorites list.

For the locations to be Favorites friendly, you will likely want to use a program like MapSource or Extra_POI_Editor that allows you to categorize them to your liking.

I have done this successfully many times.

Good Luck

Yep, that's the way I do it too.
