POI for garage sales

My wife was wondering if there is a POI or other type of program that she can easily use to create a custom route for garage sales?

Custom routes

POI is a specific point, like for example street address. It is not a program.
You can create custom routes in MapSource from garmin and transfer to gps. Or you can make custom route through waypoints in gps itself (see manual for your model).

Garage sales are usually one day event so I don't think anybody will bother to make them into POIs. It will be easier just to type address when you done in one place and going to next one.

thanks for the info, i just

thanks for the info, i just thought i would check for her.

if your model supports multiple waypoints...

...then the GPS will attempt to route you to each location in the most efficient route.

so if you had say 6 or 7 locations that you have found in newspaper ads, or grocery store bulletin boards etc., then you could enter them in, and the GPS would set a logical route for you to follow

on the other hand, if one of the locations had a key item advertised, then you would probably want to hit that one first, regardless of it's location in relation to the others.

hope that helps a little bit

My understanding is that your 255w does not have "Custom Routes". However, it does have the ability to use "Via Points". Based on that, I am going to try to describe a method for you wife to set up a pseudo route. I am going to use "Recently Found" as a way to set up the best route. I do this because I do not think that "Via Points" will be optomized automatically. However, once you know where all the garage sales are, you may be able to add the "Via Points" in a logical way.

Starting with a list of the addresses of the garage sales, start entering them into the GPS. You would do a Where To? > Address and get the first location. You can then use "back" to return to the main menu (without even having the GPS "calculate" the route to that address) and that address will now be in "Recently Found". Repeat this process for the remainder of the garage sale addresses.

At this point, all of the addresses will be in "Recently Found". Using your logic, set up a route to some address using Where To? > Recently Found > select an address. Touch Go. After the unit calculates the route, touch Menu (at the bottom of the screen, then touch Where To? > Recently Found and touch another address. Touch Go and then select the option "Add as Via Point" when it appears. Repeat for the remaining addresses.

I'll be interested if someone knows a really good way to "optomize" this process on a GPSr that does not have the "Custom Routes" option.
