Garmin 265WT vs Garmin 765T HELP

So I need help. I am trying to decide between a 265WT and a 765T. The 265WT is $120 and the 765T is $160. What would you do?

Thanks in advance.

follow this link https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134

and put check marks by each the 265wt and the 765t. Then back to the top and click "compare". Look for the shaded bars which mark differences.

I made the decision for the 765t myself because of "lane assist" but "routes would be another reason

no brainer

go with the 265wt, read some of the threads here for all the problems with the 765t, I myself have a 765t and the replacement is going in for a replacement.

.

I don't like either model. I'd buy a 760, but at least the 765 has the quick disconnect cradle.

The Winner is ..... 765T

I also like the quick disconnect mount. It's very handy when used witht eh bean bag mount. Also, the 765T uses a standard mini usb cable for charging and data transfer. You have to jump through a few aqdditional steps to get voice proximity alerts working on the 265WT. For that added hassle alone, I don't recommend the 265WT.

i'm curious

Other than the one-time loading SOX.exe what other "extra hoops" do you need to use voice alerts? When downloading the alerts from POI-Factory you have your choice of formats.

Best Feature

The best feature the 765T offers is the abiity to have custom routes. We make trips to the same places to visit friends and family and the ability to select a route quickly as opposed to having the GPS calculate the route based on an address is great. The GPS address routing sometimes takes you on some wierd routes. I also setup my daily route to work so I can get traffic info. I upgrade to Clear channel traffic from the free version and it's been much better than the free version.

Thanks

I decided to stay with my 265wt. Thank you for all your help.

755t

I love customizing my routes and lane assist has helped me many times. I love 755t! (the 755 is the same as the 765 minus the blue-tooth.

Lane Assistance on the 265?

I am curious: Is Lane Assistance / Junction View on the Nuvi 265? I had thought NOT, but recently read some user comments that stated they had it. Are these functions only on some versions of the 265?

As long as I'm at it, what about Lane Assistance on the 255?

I'm asking just to be knowledgeable, when recommending Nuvis to others; I'm perfectly happy with my 855.

No Lane Assist on the 265 or

No Lane Assist on the 265 or 255. Not sure what Junction View is, but haven't seen that on my 265 or 255.

In my opinion, both of these are very good GPSs. I have no experience with the 765 or 855.

My Choice

My choice had been the 765T. I looked at the feature set compared to all of the Garmin GPS models and it was the most feature rich. However, the richness comes at the price of the current buggy 3.90 firmware. I had a chance to play with a 760 and I was jealous because it works exactly how I want my 765T to work. If you have faith that Garmin will eventually fix the problem (they have been promising since early March with no fix in sight), then the 765T would probably be worth the extra $40. If not, then the 265WT would be your better choice. My brother-in-law has one and it works fine.

.

Many people don't quite appreciate which feature is called what . . . . And if it doesn't have Lane Assist, it won't have Junction View.

Lane assist is the feature where, while navigating upcoming turns MAY be qualified by a series of arrows in the upper left corner which symbolize the number of lanes at the turn and in what direction they trend (left/stright/right). The lane(s) you are supposed to be in is (are) highlighted.

Junction View, as implemented in North America will, when available post a depiction of an upcoming exit sign, with the lanes graphically depicted below; Where you should be is indivated with a very prominent arrow. It is nice, but not necessary, since every navigator tells you whether to turn or not.

I live in Montreal and we have LOTS of JV interchanges, but I have heard that in many sizeable US cities there are none.

The problem with LA and JV are that you cannot depend on their availability when in unfamiliar territory and, if you are in your home area, you don't need it, making the feature just another piece of fluff.

As to 'what to buy' - the 760 is the right choice - they are out there. They have all of the key features. The Parrot-based Bluetooth works. The Sirf chipset is a lot better than the present MTC. The touchscreen never seems to fail. They are almost bulletproof and, most important they display upcoming cross streets in the green banner box AND they display streets on the map to zoom levels of 1.2 km . . . . .

I, for one will not be buying another Garmin navigator from a series beyond the Nuvi XX0 range until they put back those two features AND stop treating their clients as beta testers for bad software.

Good question

When I looked those choices, I like the greater feature set of the 765t. So far it has worked fine for me except for the blue tooth microphone. People could not hear me easily. My current vehicle has blue tooth and Onstar, so I don't use the GPS for phone calls.
